Les villageois de Dogoni au Mali sont attachants, indique Joanne D’Aoust, coopérante avec QSF.
Joanne D’Aoust est à la disposition des groupes scolaires ou autres, curieux d’en apprendre plus sur ce projet d’entraide. Des deux mois et demi qu’elle a passés au Mali, elle a rapporté près de cinq milles photos et un lot de souvenirs. Elle veut parler de ces familles établies dans ce village depuis 600 ans et qui n’avaient pas encore pratiqué la culture maraîchèremais qui cultivent tout demême l’espoir. Elle et son équipe, sous l’égide d’un agronome, ont aidé les villageois à creuser manuellement deux puits pendant ce séjour ainsi qu’à bêcher la première parcelle. Bientôt, ils récolteront leurs propres légumes, une denrée à peu près inexistante chez eux. Très peu d’entre eux ont les moyens d’en acheter dans les agglomérations voisines. C’est donc un progrès important pour cette communauté qui, repas après repas, jour après jour, se nourrit presqu’exclusivement d’une pâte pimentée faite de farine de mil et d’eau, servie avec une sauce. Un petit pas certes, mais les domaines de lasanté,del’éducationetdesinfrastructures routières demeurent autant de dossiers criants. « Ce n’est qu’avec l’éducation qu’ils pourront vraiment changer les choses. En passant à Bamako (capitale du Mali), j’ai vu cette pensée écrite sur unmur : Un enfant qui ne va pas à l’école, c’est tout un peuple qui n’avance pas . Ça m’a frappé. À Dogoni, ils ont une toute petite salle de classe, avec même pas de fenêtre. C’est plus que rudimentaire. Les adultes ne parlent pas le français pour la plupart, même si c’est la langue nationale du pays, plusieurs jeunes aussi.Alorsceuxquirêventd’allertravailler à l’extérieur du village sont limités puisqu’ilsneparlentquelebambara(langue très répandue au Mali). » Joanne D’Aoust était venue nous rencontrer avant son départ afin de remercier les gens de la région qui l’avait aidé à financer ce projet. Les coopérants doivent défrayer les coûts du voyage et donner une contribution de 1 800 $, notamment. Elle considère comme une grande opportunité d’avoir pu intégrer le programme de stage Québec sans frontières (QSF) dont le volet universel est ouvert à l’ensemble de la population de 35 ans et moins. Elle souhaitait alors, comme elle le fait encore aujourd’hui, rendre la réalité des habitants de Dogoni plus concrète. Elle leur a promis que bien que partie, elle ne les oublierait pas et qu’elle tenterait d’étendre cette sensibilité au plus grand nombre. « Ils ne veulent pas qu’on les laisse tomber. Ils sont conscients de notre confort, unefoisrevenucheznous.Ilsveulentgarder contact avec nous, ils ont espoir d’une meilleure qualité de vie. Tu crées tellement de liens avec ces gens-là. Même s’ils ont peu, ils s’occupent de toi, ils te protègent, ils veulent toujours que tu ne travailles pas trop fort, que tu évites de te blesser. À mon retour, j’ai décidé de miser sur une vision positive. Je ressens ce besoin de solidarité et d’agir personnellement pour un changement positif sur le monde. Au fond, il n’y a pas tant de différence que ça, entre eux et nous. On consacre tous un temps à la tâche et un temps pour se divertir et socialiser. On a des cérémonies pour les grandes étapes de la vie, comme le mariage par exemple. Dans la façon de faire, tout est différent mais à la base, tout se ressemble. » Surcettelancée,JoanneD’Aoustadécidé de s’inscrire à l’Université d’Ottawa en Immigration et relations inter ethniques. Originaire de Hawkesbury, résidente de Rigaud et encore plus citoyenne du monde, elle estime qu’elle a eu de la chance de naître ici et qu’elle peut bien donner en retour à ceux qui ont un sort moins enviable. « Je voudrais dire combien il est important que le financement aux Organismes non gouvernementaux (ONG) soit maintenu. Il y a des coupures et c’est malheureux car c’est notre façon d’aider. Cesorganismessontessentielssurleterrain. Je comprends mieux aussi les immigrants quand ils arrivent ici. Nous espérons répéter la soirée l’an prochain », a lancé la directrice générale du centre, Paula Assaly, faisant référence à la soirée intitulée « Vins et diamants » qui a également servi de lancement pour sa campagne de financement.
