Vankleek Hill| De grands no m s du blues ont défilé vendredi et sa m edi à Vankleek Hill, dont le légendaire Bob Walsh. Blues on the Hill présenté par Bobb y Lalonde m usique a su ravir les a m ateurs pour sa pre m ière édition. L’événe m ent qui a pris place sur le terrain de l’exposition agricole du village, a attiré plus de six cents personnes, pendant les deux jours de l’événe m ent. Les organisateurs peuvent d’ailleurs se vanter d’un flair exceptionnel, a y ant recruté un élé m ent très pro m etteur de la relève, Jordon John. Le jeune ho mm e vient de signer avec le célèbre producteur David Foster pour cinq albu m s sous l’étiquette Verve qui seront distribués par Universel. Ce développe m ent a eu lieu après l’entente conclue pour le Blues on the Hill. « Je pense que c’est une chance pour ceux qui l’auront vu à Vankleek Hill. Je ne suis pas certain qu’on le reverra dans le coin. Il a dit qu’il a bien ai m é l’organisation, qu’il a trou- vé les gens s ym pathiques et qu’il ai m erait qu’on le réinvite, m ais je lui ai dit que je ne pense pas qu’on aura les m o y ens de pa y er le cachet m aintenant. Il m ’a quand m ê m e dit : on verra quand on sera arrivé au pont », raconte Bobb y Lalonde en précisant que la liste d’artistes était en soi i m pressionnante. A 38- y ear-old Hawkesbur y m an has been charged with assaulting a police officer fol- lowing a disturbance on Régent Street Au- gust 31. Patrick Young, of Régent Street, faces two counts of assaulting a peace officer, two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodil y har m , one count of obstructing a po- lice officer and one count of m ischief. The charges were laid when Officers Luc Duval and Dan y k Lafrance arrived at the scene and found an intoxicated m an y elling and screa m ing. While officers were tr y ing to co mm unicate with the suspect, he alleg- edl y pushed one of the officers. As the m an was arrested, he allegedl y resisted, kicking and screa m ing, and threatening the offi- cers. The situation has pro m pted the town to take steps to install new crosswalks, and to reduce the town’s exposure to potential liti- gation. The installation of nine new crosswalks, including seven on Main, is being studied b y the m unicipalit y . Such a m ove would require so m e m one y and a public education drive, observed Public Works Superintendent Gérald Ca m p- bell in a m e m o to town council. According to infor m ation provided b y Hawkesbur y Ontario Provincial Police Staff Sergeant Wa y ne Morris, since 2009, there have been 32 accidents with injuries in town, including 24 on Main. Of this total, eight pedestrians were hurt and three c y - clists were injured. Ca m pbell has presented two options. Installing lights at crosswalks would be price y – each set of lights would $10,000 to $15,000. The other, cheaper alternative would be to delineate crosswalks with lu- m inous pots. The detach m ent has stressed that once the new crossings have been in- stalled, police would initiate a public infor- m ation blitz. New crosswalks would be created on Main West at Kipling and Geneviève, and on Main East at Ja m es, Race, Willia m , Ha m p- den and Mar y . One Dalkeith site salvaged, another in jeopardy
DALKEITH | A for m er place of worship in Dalkeith has been salvaged but the fate of another building ne x t door re m ains in doubt. After two y ears of negotiating with the Al- exandria-Cornwall Ro m an Catholic diocese, the Dalkeith Historical Societ y has beco m e the new owner of the 145- y ear-old for m er St. Paul’s Chapel, and the adjacent m anse. The organization is hosting a public m eet- ing Saturda y , Septe m ber 8 at 9 a. m . to fur- ther infor m the public of its plans. So m e residents fear that the group’s plans include the de m olition of the rector y , which was built in the earl y 1950s. “There has been “talk” about re m oving the m anse fro m the 1845 Dalkeith Road propert y ,” sa y s societ y spokesperson Frances Fraser. “There has also been “talk” about the m aintaining the m anse located at the 1845 location.” The societ y had offered to acquire the chapel for a token su m of $1 and pa y the diocese $5,000 towards the cost of sever- ing the two properties. When severance was dee m ed to be i m possible, the DHS got both buildings. “I can tell y ou that our m ain goal as a charitable/not-for-profit group is and has alwa y s been to m aintain the Cha- pel -- that’s what it’s all about, that’s what our co mm it m ent to the public is based on,” Fraser writes in an e- m ail.
