Mardi soir, c’était au tour de la classe de musique de montrer sa solidarité en organisant un souper spaghetti. «Ce sont les élèves qui ont dit qu’ils voulaient faire quelque-chose», a indiqué l’enseignante de la concentrationmusique, Isabel Rodrigue, lors du souper, très fière de voir autant de gens attablés. La classe de nutrition a elle aussi participé en cuisinant la sauce et cer- tains élèves ont offerts quelques chansons pour agrémenter l’événement. «On a une communauté extrêmement généreuse. C’est dans des moments comme ça qu’on voit l’importance d’être soudés les uns les autres», a pour sa part fait valoir Mme Laflamme. La famille Brisebois-Lamothe était au grand complet. Les plus petits, Alexy, deux ans et Wylliam, cinq ans, se promenaient parmi les grands, à l’aise, jouant au ballon dans le corridor, ou dansant au son de lamu- sique, préservés du drame par leur parents. «Il y a bien du monde que je ne connais pas ici et pourtant ils sont là pour nous. En ce moment, ça fait toute la différence», a réagi Karine Brisebois. La famille du couple est à l’extérieur, cer- tains sont venus pour le souper cependant. Il n’y a qu’une garde-robe pour les effets de toute la famille. Les meubles de rangement seront donc parmi ses priorités. Ne sachant plus trop sur quel pied danser avec l’assu- reur, cette dernière n’en apprécie que plus la compassion de la communauté qui n’a pas attendu uneminute pour leur venir en aide. «C’est beau de voir combien les gens se tiennent ici. Il y a des gens qui nous ont offert d’aller vivre chez eux, des gens nous ont donné des vêtements et une dame de Saint- Bernardin m’a offert de garder les enfants pour que je me repose. Je suis tellement fatiguée, que je pense que je vais accepter.» Pour la famille qui venait de traverser l’épreuve du cancer avec le petit Wylliam qui est en rémission depuis un an, c’est une autre grosse bouchée dure à avaler, mais ils sont faits de l’étoffe des battants. «On est habitué. C’est dur là, mais on se dit que ça va nous faire apprendre autre chose, que ça va nous faire grandir.»
Environ 140 personnes sont venues par- tager leur souper avec la famille Brise- bois-Lamothe de Hawkesbury, mardi soir à l’École secondaire publique Le Sommet, exprimant leur appui à ces gens qui ont presque tout perdu dans un incendie, le 16 février. En plus des profits amassés avec le souper qui sont à déterminer et à remettre, 1115$ ont été donnés en espèces et en cartes-ca- deau, 361$ ont été remis par le gouverne- ment des élèves auxquels s’ajoutent 300$ provenant de la vente des pâtisseries. Aus- si, Mme Laflamme est en contact permanent avec les parents, Danny Lamothe et Karine Brisebois et tente de les aider, du mieux qu’elle peut, en informant ses connaissances des nombreux besoins particuliers de la famille. Visiblement fatiguée après une semaine d’enfer à chercher des vêtements et des meubles d’occasion à travers les démarches avec l’assureur et la recherche d’un loge- ment, Karine Brisebois ne cherche pas à cacher son épuisement. «Je pense que je vais faire une dépression. Pour l’assurance, j’abandonne, je vais laisser Danny s’en occuper, car je n’ai plus la force. Le plus important, ce sont les enfants, qu’ils retrouvent un équilibre le plus vite possible.» Lorsqu’ils sont revenus à lamaison sur la rue Abbott, le 16 février dernier, ils ont com- mencé à apercevoir la fumée, pour réaliser que c’est chez eux que les pompiers inter- venaient. Le couple était avec les deux plus jeunes avec qui ils avaient célébré la Journée de la famille au Complexe sportif. À la déso- lation s’est alors ajoutée la panique, Samuel avait couché chez un ami et ne répondait pas sur son cellulaire. Était-il rentré à lamaison dans l’intervalle? L’angoisse a été terrible, a rapporté Mme Brisebois en confiant que le soulagement a été aussi intense lorsqu’elle a fini par le rejoindre. La Journée de la famille n’aura plus jamais lamême signification pour ces gens qui ont perdu deux compagnons, ce jour-là, Magui et Miquette, les deux chiens de la famille, sans parler de presque tous leurs biens et du sentiment d’avoir un chez-soi. Au nombre des rares choses récupérées, Mme Brisebois se réjouit d’avoir pu retrouver les cendres de son père, conservées dans une statuette d’ange-gardien. Celui-ci a bien fait son tra-

Les travaux de déboisements amorcés il y a quelques semaines, sur un terrain pres- senti à cet effet, sont pratiquement terminés. We don’t have training for mental health issues. We’ve been asking for years. It’s a powder keg. Workers from the Ontario Public Service (OPS) represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) were out in the cold, February 19, to picket in front of MPP Grant Crack’s office in Hawkesbury. “We are here today to hi- ghlight community public service workers,” said BarbDeRoche, executive boardmem- ber of region 4 of the OPSEU. “We want to knowwhy they (government) won’t speak to us. The government is refusing to reco- gnize the legitimate bargaining demands, and is intent on freezing wages and cutting benefits in the current contract.” The union’s contract expired December 31, 2014. Workers from the union would like to negotiate a new contract, which would include higher wages, better training, and job security. “We want a contract. We don’t want to strike,” said Gareth Jones, OPS mobilizer with OPSEU, which represents front-line ministry employees who work directly for the Ontario government. “We want improved health and safety, and wage increase to put us more in line with other service workers, ” Jones added. “The OPPmake about 30 per cent more than

The Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a possible scamor fraud in relation to Apple laptop computers that has occurred in the area. On Thursday, February 19, someone reported finding boxes of Apple MacBook Pros in a Cartier Boulevard residential com- plex dumpster. A total of 98 MacBook Pro boxes, most of them sealed, were found and seized. All the boxes had a fraudulent sticker identifying the model number A1398 with serial number C02N74LFG3QD. The boxes were all opened and plywood was found inside instead of a laptop com- puter. The OPP Identification Unit assisted in the investigation. Police believe theremay be more laptop boxes out there. OPP is warning the public to be wary of people trying to sell MacBooks either in person, or for sale online. OPP is asking for the public’s help. If approached, police ask to take as much information on the suspect as possible and contact local police service. Any information on this matter can be relayed to Constable Eddy Saardi at the Hawkesbury OPP at 613-632-2729 or 1-888- 310-1122.

Trudel a été licencié «sans cause», selon les termes de la convention, le 27 janvier dernier. Depuis décembre, le chef d’équipe Alain Lavoie assume, par intérim, les responsabilités de la surintendance des travaux publics.. La période de mise en candidature se termine le 2 mars et l’échelle salariale pour ce poste est de 64 228$ à 78 139$. Hawkesbury OPP has been investigating an incident of a truck that apparently went through the ice somewhere between Wendover and Clarence Point in the early morning of Friday, February 20; however, information has been limited. An unknown man attempted to get a tow earlier that morning claiming that he had ventured onto the Ottawa River with his vehicle using the Wendover boat dock. The man told the tow truck company that his Ford F-150 had gone through the ice. There were apparently two men involved who made it out of the submerged truck unscathed.The caller told the tow truck com- pany that they were looking for an ice-fishing hut to warm up, as they were soaked. The temperature that morning was around -25 degrees Celsius with the wind chill of -40 C. Officers from the Russell County and Hawkesbury detachments responded to the call. The Russell and Hawkesbury OPP detachments, including the Emergency Response Team, searched for the vehicle, driver and passenger, but found nothing. Police and rescue crews set up a base station at the Wendover dock while searchers on ATVs and snowmobiles scoured the frozen Ottawa River last Friday for signs of either a pickup truck reported submerged in the river or the two men who were in it and escaped before the truck went under. Break and enter The Hawkesbury OPP is investigating a break-in that occurred in the afternoon of February 19 at a James Street residence situated between Nelson Street East and Gordon Street in Hawkesbury. The investigation suggested someone entered the residence by breaking in through a door. A 55-inch Sony Bravia television and a Sony Skype camera were taken from the residence. The Town of Hawkesbury will receive up to $1,793,396 to replace water, sanitary and storm mains, which will help reduce incidences of combined sewer overflows. Ontario is providing small, rural and northern municipalities with funding to build and repair critical infrastructure and create jobs across the province. The province has approved 78 projects through the application-based component of the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) that will help communities maintain, repair, expand or update vital infrastructure such as bridges, roadways, water mains and sewage treatment systems. “Roads, bridges and water infrastructure are essential to rural communities across the province,” said Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “By partnering with communities and investing in these projects, our government is committed to ensuringmunicipalities have
the tools they need to build and maintain critical infrastructure.” Supporting small, rural and northern communities is part of the government’s economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people’s talents and skills, revitalizing public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire. “Investing in essential infrastructure projects not only increases the quality of life in communities across Ontario, but also creates jobs and generates significant economic growth in areas that need it most,” said Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure. “I’m pleased that we aremoving forward with our plan to support small, rural and northern communities, and we will continue partnering with

OCIF is part of Moving Ontario Forward, Ontario’s bold plan to invest in public infrastructure. The province is making an
unprecedented $130 billion investment in public infrastructure over the next ten years. This will support more than 110,000 jobs on average each year in construction and related industries. To be eligible for the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, municipalities must have a population of less than 100,000 as of the 2011 census or be located in northern or rural Ontario.
