L’édition 2017 d’Expo
plus de 4000 personnes qui ont franchi les portes de l’Aréna CIH lors de l’événement de deux jours. L’Expo de l’année dernière a vu une fréquentation totale d’environ 3600 visiteurs. Elle a également noté qu’Expo CR gagne en réputation au sein des exposants et des visiteurs pour le professionnalisme de sa présentation, du divertissement offert et aussi de son atmosphère accueillante. « Plu- sieurs exposants ont fait remarquer qu’ils recevaient un accueil plus chaleureux des organisateurs de l’Expo CR qu’ils ne le fai- saient dans les plus grands spectacles com- merciaux urbains auxquels ils assistaient », a ajouté Madame Lizotte. Parmi les nouveaux attraits de cette édi- tion de l’Expo CR, la compétition régionale de dégustation de bière s’est avérée très populaire. La brasserie Beau’s All-Natural, basée à Vankleek Hill, a remporté le vote de popularité, bien que l’organisatrice ait noté que le compte final des bulletins de vote était très proche, entre les quatre brasseries régionales. L’événement de dégustation de bière, ain- si que plusieurs autres activités de divertis- sement lors de l’Expo, ont également permis de récolter des fonds pour des groupes de la communauté. Les résultats de ces efforts de collecte de fonds seront connus au courant des prochaines éditions.

Topic is drug use and abuse, with attention to the rising use of fentanyl and other “fad” drugs in major urban areas. Sauvé plans to hold a three-day prospects camp in mid-June at the Clarence-Rockland Arena, followed later in August by the pre-season training camp. Sauvé expects to see a goodmix of veteran players looking to trade in their Rangers jer- seys for the Nats logo along with a big crop of rookies and first-timers from the minor
Ball tournament A spring inter-village ball tournament has support of Clarence-Rockland council members. TVC22 is organizing the two-day recreational tournament for the May 27 weekend. The non- profit community television operation will have use of Parc Simon in Rockland for the ball tournament. – Gregg Chamberlain leagues to harvest for his opening lineup. “I think the big question and challenge for us will be to fill the spots we have available,” Sauvé said. “It’s going to be exciting for us to get all these players together.”

The Rockland Nationals are back in the Junior A lineup in the Central Canadian Hockey League. Rockland was once a Junior A hockey town and the Nats were Centennial Cup winners in the CCHL.The present four-man partnership, which owns the newNationals Jr. A franchise, hope to see those glorious days return. Co-owners André Chaput, Jean- Robert “J.R.” Léger and other members of the new franchise spent their April 22 weekend manning an information booth at the arena as part of this year’s CR Expo commercial fair. “Rockland had a good team which won the Centennial Cup in 75-76,” recalled Cha- put, talking about the restoration of Junior A hockey to the town. “Over the last five years, people have been asking: Why don’t you bring a Junior A team here again?” Chaput, who is originally from Navan, spent almost two decades as a Rockland resident, and for the past 18 years he was a co-owner and part-time scout for the Gati- neau Olympiques hockey franchise. Last year he and several others heard that the Gloucester Rangers junior A franchisemight soon be available for purchase. Chaput, Le- ger, André Charlebois, and Robert Bourdeau got together and formed a partnership and bought the Rangers franchise with the intent of moving it to Rockland and resurrecting the Nationals Jr. A club. “I’ve been involved in hockey since I was three or four,” Chaput said, adding he used to play intermediate hockey for Wendover. “This (Nats Jr. A) is a personal satisfaction. We want to make sure that we have some local kids playing for us.” Which is now the task for Dan Sauvé and his coaching staff. It’s common knowledge that sugar wreaks havoc on your teeth, but did you know that eating acidic food and beverages could also impact your oral health? Consumed in large quantities, acidic foods and drinks — like soft drinks, energy drinks, citrus fruits, pickles, vi- naigrettes, coffee, wine and sour candy — can cause your teeth to erode. How? Acids attack your pearly whites and dissolve the calcium particles that keep enamel strong. This is called deminera- lization and leaves your teeth vulnerable to cavities and early wear. Furthermore, wea- kened enamel and hypersensitivity go hand in hand. Once teeth start to demi- neralize, the damage is irreversible, and if the erosion progresses to the nerves, a root canal becomes inevitable.
The best way to prevent enamel erosion is to limit the amount of acidic foods you consume. However, cutting them out of your diet entirely isn’t always the answer — especially if they provide good nutri- tional value, as is the case of citrus fruits. There are plenty of ways to lessen the effects of acidity, such as drinking cola through a straw to avoid direct contact with your teeth. It’s also a good idea to save such beverages for after your meal, when your mouth has generated sufficient saliva to neutralize the acidity. Finally, avoid brushing your teeth imme- diately after consuming acid-rich foods: you risk smearing harmful particles fur- ther into your teeth. Instead, let your saliva do its job by washing away those pesky particles first.
