Succès pour le premier festival Jamboree Country
Le premier festival Jamboree Country à Clarence-Rockland a eu lieu à l’aréna de Clarence Creek et mettait en vedette des artistes du Québec, de l’Ontario, du Nouveau-Brunswick et même de Nashville. Long weekend water watch by Ottawa Police and OPP will also check to make sure every boater has the proper navigation and safety equip- ment in working order on their vessel and that boats, canoes and other vessels are not overloaded. They will also check to make sure boaters are licensed for their vessels. Police onmarine patrol will also enforce the Criminal Code and provincial Liquor Act sections dealing with impaired boating, having care and control of a vessel while im- paired, and having alcohol aboard a vessel, along with dangerous boating infractions.

The August long weekend approaches and police departments in EasternOntario are all ready to enforce boating safety rules on the Ottawa River and other streams and lakes. Police and federal prison officials are asking the public to be on the lookout for a man wanted for breaching his parole. The Repeat Offender Parole Enforce- ment Squad (ROPE) has issued an alert for 52-year-old Daniel Pilon. He is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breach of parole. Pilon was on a long-term supervision order after completing a five-year sentence for robbery, overcoming a person’s resis- tance by trying to choke them, and forcible confinement. He is known to frequent the Ottawa area. Pilon stands six-foot-three and weighs 282 pounds. He wears glasses and has tattoos on his entire left and right arms.

Two people found dead in a Rockland residence
Deux personnes ont été retrouvées mortes dans une résidence située au 2305 Rue Raymond à Clarence-Rockland le lundi, 31 juillet. Le détachement de Russell de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario a répondu à l’appel à 14h29 où ils ont trouvé les corps d’un homme et d’une femme. Tout au long de l’année, lors des classes vertes, les élèves du jardin de l’école Sainte- Trinité, des classes de Janie Turcotte et deManon Chartrand, ont rendu visite aux résidents de la Résidence Simon de Clarence-Rockland. Pendant les visites, ils ont joué au bingo et ont lu des histoires ensemble. L’activité a été qualifiée de très enrichissante, autant pour les élèves que pour les résidents. À chacune des visites, ils ont créé des liens entre eux. Par exemple, lors de la dernière visite, ils ont mangé une crème glacée ensemble en regardant les poissons dans l’étang —photo fournie

The Russell County OPP Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the call at 2:29 p.m. The body of a man and a woman were found inside the residence located at 2305 Raymond Street. The investigation is still ongoing and no further details have been released yet.

Avec la chaleur arrivent lesmoustiques. Et si l’on a beau avoir recours à des stratégies diverses pour les éviter, on n’y échappe pas forcément. Voici quelques conseils et remèdes naturels pour apaiser et soigner les piqûres de ces insectes. Ils tournicotent autour de nous. Leur bruit agace nos oreilles. Leurs piqûres nous irritent…Aumieux, les moustiques gâchent nos étés. Au pire, ces petits vampires se révèlent de véritables meurtriers. Avec les inondations que la région a connues en ce début d’été, les moustiques sont arrivés en grand nombre et certains ont noté qu’il y en avait plus que les années précédentes. Alors, comment se protéger de ces petits envahisseurs ? Tout d’abord, les spécialistes conseillent de porter des vêtements de couleur pâle comme le blanc et de ne pas hésiter sur l’épaisseur des couches de vêtements. « La première protection, c’est d’être habillé et couvert de haut en bas. Par exemple, les chaussettes embarquées sur le pantalon long », a conseillé Ghislaine Gagné, naturo- pathe à Hawkesbury. Pas évident tout ça, surtout quand il fait 30 degrés. Les huiles essentielles sont de bons éléments pour faire fuir les moustiques. « On peut appliquer les huiles essentielles sur la peau, ou mettre quelques gouttes dans un vaporisateur ou dans une crème, car les

Au secours ! Ça pique, ça pique… Pourquoi la peau réagit-elle ainsi lorsqu’un moustique pique? Lorsque l’in- secte pénètre la peau avec son dard, la peau fait une légère réaction allergique à la salive dumoustique. Il vaut mieux commencer par laver la zone irritée avec du savon et de l’eau plutôt que de gratter là où ça nous démange. La chaleur dissipe le venin du moustique. Certains produits (comme la calamine ou la cortisone) sont efficaces contre les déman- geaisons de piqûres. Mais il existe aussi des moyens très simples pour apaiser une piqûre de moustique. On peut aussi appliquer une compresse imbibée de vinaigre blanc ou encoremasser le bouton avec 2 gouttes d’huile essentielle de lavande, désinfectante. Enfin, un sachet de thé mouillé posé sur la piqûre calme les démangeaisons. « L’huile d’arbre à thé est très bonne pour calmer les démangeaisons, ainsi que la lavande. Il y a des produits à base demiel et des crèmes homéopathiques qui peuvent soulager très rapidement les démangeaisons.

Les odeurs attirent davantage le moustique », a indiqué Mme Gagné. Le type de sang et la transpiration peuvent être des éléments attirants pour les moustiques. Ils préfèrent aussi les personnes dont la chimie du corps
sécrète les saccharides, qui donnent à la peau un goût sucré. Vous ne vous êtes pas forcément fait beaucoup piquer, mais vos boutons sont énormes et enflés? C’est peut-être une réac- tion allergique. Certaines piqûres sont plus graves sur certains corps et les symptômes peuvent être assez impressionnants. Dans ce cas, il est préférable de consulter un médecin.

Eric Michael Hawks, l’organisateur et le président du Festival Jamboree Country de Clarence-Rockland, s’est dit fort heureux du premier festival country jamboree à Clarence Creek, du 18 au 23 juillet. Le festival a eu lieu à l’aréna de Clarence Creek et mettait en vedette des artistes du Québec, de l’Ontario, du Nouveau- Brunswick et même de Nashville. Plus de 25 artistes se sont suivis sur scènes tout au long de la semaine du festival, rendant hommage aux grands noms du country comme George Jones, Merle Haggard et Hank Williams. Les journées du mardi 18 juillet au di- manche 23 juillet étaient remplies d’activités différentes pour tout le monde. Au cours des premiers jours, on a eu droit à un bingo, un Whist militaire ainsi qu’à une pièce de théâtre de la Station 4 Saisons. Du jeudi au dimanche, les journées ainsi que les soirées
étaient réservées aux prestations d’artistes, incluant un hommage à Elvis Presley et Stompin’ Tom, ainsi qu’une journée avec lamusique country des années 1960 et 1970. Eric Michael Hawks, lui-même artiste country, était très satisfait du nombre de personnes qui ont acheté des billets pour cette première édition du festival – samedi après-midi, l’aréna était plein. Les festivaliers avaient l’occasion de passer leur journée assis devant la scène pendant les prestations, de danser autour de l’aréna, d’aller prendre un verre ou de passer du temps dehors à visiter les kiosques de bijoux et de vêtements.

Russell and C-R make Top 50 Places to Live in Canada MoneySense, the Canadian online personal finance and lifestyle magazine, has recently released their 2017 list of Best Places to Live in Canada and two Prescott-Russell municipali- ties have made the top 50. Russell was ranked number 21, whereas Clarence-Rockland made number 31 out of the 417 cities on the list. The list is based off 36 different categories that range from unemployment rates, health care, amenities, crime rates, weather, taxation and culture and community, amongst others. Other notable cities on the list are The Nation ranked at 123 rd and Hawkesbury at 311 th . The city of Ottawa was ranked the number 1 city to live in in Canada, – Alexia Marsillo La Station 4 Saisons, en collaboration avec le théâtre la Barouette, offrent une grande salle de réception, une cabane à sucre et des soupers-spectacles. Le théâtre la Barouette est une initiative collective qui a commemission d’établir une vie théâtrale, créative et artistique dans la région de Pres- cott Russell. Le but est de rendre les arts accessibles à la communauté francophone de l’est de l’Ontario et divertir le public tout en profitant aux artistes locaux. La Grand’Ville a été présentée à Saint- Isidore au cours des deux dernières fins de semaine de juillet. La pièce sera en scène jusqu’au 26 août – les deux premières fins de semaine d’août à Hammond, à la Station 4 Saisons et les deux dernières fins de semaine, la pièce sera présentée à Hawkesbury.
Le théâtre la Barouette de la région Pres- cott-Russell est fort occupé cet été avec les présentations, depuis le vendredi 21 juillet, de sa création originale La Grand’Ville . Pour la première fois, cet été, le théâtre la Barouette offrira aux amateurs de théâtre des soirées souper-théâtre, en association avec la Station 4 Saisons de Hammond. La pièce a comme intrigue un homme qui décide de revenir dans son petit vil- lage de l’Est ontarien. Lors d’une impasse dans ses réalisations personnelles, celui-ci décide de revenir à ses racines et de docu- menter les gens, les faits et les évènements qui l’ont poussé à quitter le bercail pour la Grand’Ville. La deuxième édition pancanadienne de la Course des régions est ouverte pour les participants du Québec, ainsi qu’aux groupes francophones du Canada, qui se regroupent en quatre régions : l’At- lantique, l’Ontario, les Prairies et l’Ouest-Territoires. La Course des régions pancanadiennes contribue à développer le talent cinématographique et à créer des liens entre de jeunes cinéastes professionnels des régions francophones canadiennes. La Course est présentement en période d’inscription, jusqu’au 6 août 2017. tually never wanted to be an artist, I wanted to be a veterinarian,” said Tossounian. “But I was always doing art andmaking things and selling them tomy friends in school.The next thing you know I was taking art classes in College just until I got to University and then the next thing you know I was opening up my own art gallery. It was all kind of seren- dipitous.” Now, she works mostly fromhome in Bourget but also has a studio in Ottawa and gets most of her business these days through private commissions. “Everything is so digital nowadays that actually people are reverting back to wanting something real,” said Tossounian. Tossounian has led an interesting life, to say the least. She was convicted of arson in 2012 in connection to a fire that destroyed her art studio and spent almost two years in the Ottawa Carlton Detention Centre. She has always maintained her innocence, and the case is presently up for review in which the Court of Appeal has set her conviction aside and ordered a new trial. While in detention, Tossounian became a self-journalist – documenting everything she saw and heard – and gathered the stories of the women shemet there. After her release, she self-published those documentations into three novels and became an advocate for justice reformand criminalized women. Tossounianwas also one of the first people to have amedical marijuana club in Kitchener, Ontario, working with Health Canada and pushing for it to become legal. “Being in a

This project is in collaboration with the Prescott-Russell Trail Corporation, the City of Clarence- Rockland and othermembers of the com- munity.The Trail Corporation and the City put up money for the paint and supplies and, for the rest, Tossounian has started a GoFundMe page. “Most artists will raise the money in ad- vance of the project, but I just really wanted to do this,” said Tossounian. “So I figured I’ll just go and do it and see what I can come up with along the way.” Tossounian takes this laid back attitude with most – she has an idea in her mind of what she wants to paint on themural but nothing set in stone. So far, she has painted a beaver dam, some Canadian flags, a train (to represent the Bourget Train Station) and a moose. The only aspect Tossounian is certain of is that the focus of themural is the recreational trail of Bourget through the years. Other than that, she is doing research on some of its history and simply letting herself be inspired by the things she sees and the people she encounters along the way. Tossounian has been an artist her entire life, even when she did not know it yet. “I ac-

focus on her art. “Right now, I’m really just working on the mural and I go back and forth between things when I have time for them or when an issue I care about comes up,” said Tossounian. For this summer, at least, Tossounian’s cause is themural along the Recreation Trail in Bourget; giving back to a community she now calls her home.

At the beginning of the soccer season, it was looking like it was not going to be pos- sible to create a competitive boys’ soccer team for this age group due to a lack of play- ers and no coach. The Raiders defeated teams from Ham- ilton, Kingston and Woolwich to make it to the semi-finals at the annual Ambassador Cup competitive tournament in Kingston. The team then went on to defeat Quinte to advance to the finals. In a very evenly matched, tied 1-1 final, the Russell Raiders rose to victory in a 3-1 shootout victory.
