Today she is a stylist at Blic žena and a journalist who interviews important people about fashion topics and trends. For this issue of Elevate she brings us the story of celebrated creator Dragana Ognjenović.
Željka Mrđa radi kao novinarka više od deset godina. Radoznala za svaku priču koja svedoči o tome koliko svet može da bude produhovljen i umetnički lep i skladan. Ako bi mogla, uzela bi kredit u pesničkim slikama i čistom nadahnuću i onda bi ceo život putovala. Piše nam u ovom broju o umetnici koja pravi šajkače za dame i oazama mira u beogradskim manastirima. Željka Mrđa has worked as a journalist for more than ten years. She is curious about every story that testifies to teh world’s spiritual richness and artistic beauty. If she could, she would take credit in poetic images and pure inspiration, then spend her whole life travelling. For this issue she wrote about an artist who makes šajkača caps for ladies and oases of tranquillity in Belgrade’s monasteries.
Jugoslav Vlahović je profesor na Odseku za grafički dizajn na Akademiji primenjenih umetnosti u Beogradu. Dugogodišnji je ilustrator- karikaturista vodeceg srpskog nedeljnika NIN, a njegova su dela objavljivana u mnogim svetskim publikacijama i časopisima. U ovom broju predstavlja svoju novu knjigu Flower Power . is a professor of the Department of Graphic Design at the Academy of Applied Arts in Belgrade. A long-serving illustrator and caricaturist of leading Serbian weekly publication NIN , his works have also been published in many magazines and other publications around the world. – Spadam među one koji se vrlo raci- onalno pakuju i ne nosim ništa što mi je previše. Kako zbog posla često putujem, onda mi je jako teško da sama nosim tor- be. Ali uvek imam svoju veliku ličnu torbu u kojoj se nalaze pribor za higijenu, vlažne maramice ili neko sredstvo za dezinfekciju ruku, mali neseser sa šminkom, kao i knji- ga, ako je u pitanju duža destinacija. ARE YOU SKILLED AT PACKING? - I am among those people who pack very rationally and never carry anything excessive. As I travel regularly due to my work, I find it very difficult to carry my own bags. But I always have my own large hand- bag, which contains hygiene items, wet wi-
pes or some disinfectant, a small vanity case with make-up, and a
book if I’m travelling to a more distant destination.

Venice All about the life of the seductive Casanova A museum dedicated to the life of 18 th century adventurer and lover Giacomo Casanova has opened in his native Venice. There, via a variety of virtual reality installations, visitors can read, hear and see digital presentations detailing his youth and seductions. One of the six rooms of the museum is a bedroom, where the scene appears to show Casanova seducing a woman in front of visitors’ eyes. Those interested in the museum can also learn all about his travels around Europe, incarcerations and prison breaks, his personality and cinematographic depictions of Casanova. Prague Festival for beer lovers Almost every Czech village has its own brewery, so it’s no surprise that the annual Beer Festival is a symbol of Prague and the country’s biggest epicurean event in the country. This year’s edition of the festival will be held from 10 th to 26 th May in Letná Park. And, as there’s no beer without sausages, visitors will also be able to enjoy tastings of local varieties. At the festival’s stalls, they will be able to try more than 50 different types of top quality beer, while another interesting fact is that this festival has its own currency – the tolar, which is used to pay for everything at the festival. Stockholm Exhibition honours famous group Abba Thirty-six years have passed since the breakup of famous pop group “Abba”, the most successful Swedish group of all time, whose songs remain popular even today. A museum dedicated to this group opened five years ago in Stockholm, and to mark this minor anniversary the museum will unveil an exhibition on 8 th May about the life of Abba’s four musicians after the group’s breakup. Speaking about the exhibition, Agnetha, Anni-Frid, Benny and Björn all said that music never left them and that their musical journey continued, which visitors will now have the opportunity to see through this exhibition. The International Bank Note Society (IBNS) has declared the banknote for 10 Swiss francs as the world’s most beautiful. It was not stated whether this recognition came due to its golden colour, motifs of the gentle hands of an orchestra conductor on the banknote, or its top protection against counterfeiting. Second place went to the ten-pound Sterling banknote produced by the Royal Bank of Scotland, featuring an image of scientist Mary Somerville wearing a bonnet. The IBNS is an association that brings together banknote collectors and has been encouraging the study of banknotes since 1961.

Prošlo je 36 godina otkad je prestala da postoji grupa ABBA, najuspešniji švedski bend svih vremena, čije se pesme i danas slušaju. Tako je pre pet godina u Stokholmu otvoren muzej posvećen ovoj grupi, a u znak tog malog jubileja 8. maja u muzeju biće otvorena izložba o životu četvoro muzičara nakon raspada grupe. Agneta, Ani-Frid, Beni i Bjorn tim povodom izjavili su da ih muzika nikad nije napustila i da je njihovo muzičko putovanje nastavljeno, kao i da će posetioci imati priliku da to vide na izložbi. Njujork Otvoren muzej špijunaže Ako želite da saznate kako se postaje špijun, uputite se u njujorški Spyscape , muzej špijuna u kojem ćete saznati šta su koristili nekad, a čime se danas služe svetski špijuni. Takođe, možete da istražite imate li karakteristike da postanete špijun, a izložbeni prostor ovog neobičnog muzeja podeljen je na više segmenata: na šifrovanje, obmanu, hakovanje, vojni sajber i obaveštajni deo. Dok prolazite kroz testove koji se sastoje od niza pitanja, vežbi i igara, u muzeju vas prati 113 kamera, 32 projektora i 317 zvučnika, a sve to kako bi stvorili vaš profil na osnovu karakternih crta, inteligencije i sklonosti ka rizikovanju.

If you want to discover how to become a spy, head to New York’s “Spyscape”, a museum of espionage where you can find out what purposes world spies used to serve, and what they do today. You can also find out whether you have the characteristics necessary to become a spy, as you explore the exhibition space of this unusual museum divided into several segments: encryption, deception, surveillance, hacking, special ops and intelligence. As you pass through the museum’s tests – consisting of a series of questions, exercises and games – you are monitored by 113 cameras, 32 projectors and 317 voice recorders, all in order to create your personal profile, based on character traits, intelligence and risk aversion.

98 FILMOVA NA 11. BELDOCSU 98 FILMS AT THE 11 TH BELDOCS
Ovogodišnje 11. izdanje Međunarodnog festivala do- kumentarnog filma Beldocs biće održano od 7. do 14. maja, a domaćoj publici predstaviće čak 98 fil- mova u 14 programa, u 10 bioskopskih sala sa vi- še od 100 gostiju. Međunarodni takmičarski program odlikuje raznovrsnost u tematici i stilskom pristupu, kao i savršen balans između velikih, dokazanih au- tora (Agnes Varda, Abel Ferara, Klod Lancman) i ta- lentovanih, mladih debitanata. U srpskom takmičar- skom programu učestvovaće devet filmova, od toga pet svetskih premijera, kao i domaća premijera filma 4 years in 10 minutes (Mladen Kovačević). Program u Staroj kinoteci podeljen je na tri selekci- je – Front page (političke i sociološke aktuelne te- me), Planet Earth (filmovi o prirodi i antropologiji) i Fireworks (filmovi o ushićujućim ili neverovatnim lju- dima i događajima). U programu Retrospektiva go-
sti festivala su austrijski reditelj Ulrih Zajdl i slovenač- ki reditelj Vlado Skafar. Biće prikazani globalni blokbaster-naslovi poput fil- ma Kedi o istanbulskim mačkama i arthaus senzacije L. Koen . Rut Bekerman, gošća festivala i jedan od naj- važnijih dokumentarista današnjice, nakon pobede u Berlinu donosi film The Waldheim Waltz , koja baca no- vo svetlo na zvaničnu istoriju Evrope. Osim filma Be - kerman , u selekciji biografskih dokumentaraca festival predstavlja naslove o ljudima koji su već usmerili tok ljudskog društva poput filma Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist Lorne Taker , koji će na Beldocsu imati među- narodnu premijeru, ali i onih koji to još rade poput izra- elskog pisca Edgara Kereta. Film Đorđa Markovića Poslednja avantura Kaktus Ba - te svečano će otvoriti festival u Centru Sava 7. maja, zajedno sa filmom Slatko od Ništa Borisa Mitića.

This year’s 11 th edition of the Belgrade In- ternational Documentary Film Festival, Beldocs, to be held from 7 th -14 th May, wi- ll present 98 films to the local audience in 14 programmes, at 10 cinemas, with more than 100 official guests. The Beldocs International Competition Programme is characterised by diversi- ty in terms of topics and stylistic approac- hes, as well as a perfect balance between great, proven authors (Agnes Varda, Abel Ferrara, Claude Lanzmann) and talented young newcomers. Nine films will partici- pate in the Serbian Competition Program- me, which will include five world premiere screenings, as well as the domestic pre- miere of the film‘4 years in 10 minutes’ (Mladen Kovačević). The programme at the old Cinematheque is divided into three selections: Front page (current political and sociological topics); Planet Earth (films connected to nature and anthropology); and Fireworks (films about unusual or incredible people and events). Guests for the retrospective pro- gramme include Austrian director Ulrich Seidl and Slovenian director Vlado Skafar. Global blockbusters will be screened, su- ch as Kedi, about the cats of Istanbul Cats, and arthouse sensation L. Cohen. The of- ficial guest of the festival, and one of the most important contemporary documen- tary filmmakers, is Ruth Beckermann. Following her victory in Berlin, she brin- gs the film The Waldheims Walzer, whi- ch casts a new light on the official history of Europe. Alongside Beckermann’s film, the festival’s selection of biographical do- cumentaries presents works about peo- ple who have already directed the flow of human society, such as Lorna Tucker’s film Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist, which will make its international premiere at Beldo- cs, but also those who are still doing that, like Israeli writer Etgar Keret. Đorđe Marković’s Film Who Framed Kak- tus Kid? will formally open the festival at the Sava Centre on 7 th May, together with Boris Mitić’s film In Praise of Nothing.
Ejbel Ferara, poznati američki reditelj igranih filmova, biće počasni gost 11. Beldocs festivala sa svojim dokumen- tarnim filmom Trg Vitorio (Piazza Vitto- rio). Ferara donosi dokumentarac kojim slavi čuvenu rimsku pjacu. Trg je jedan konstantno živahni multietnički centar u kojem žive i Rimljani i Azijati, i Afri- kanci i Indijanci. Prolazeći trgom, Ferara se upušta u razgovore sa njima o njiho- vom poreklu, razlogu dolaska, želji za ostankom. I opstankom u surovom sa- vremenom svetu… Ferara je potpisao neka od kultnih filmskih ostvarenja, poput Zlog poručnika iz 1992. godine, koji je vrlo brzo stekao status kultnog.
ABEL FERRARA IN BELGRADE Famous American feature film director Abel Ferrara will be the guest of hono- ur at the 11 th BelDocs Festival, with his documentary film Piazza Vittorio. Ferra- ri brings this documentary with which he honours one of Rome’s most famo- us squares. This plaza is a multi-ethnic hub that is continuously lively and is in- habited by natives of Rome as well as Asians, Africans and Indians. Traversing this square, Ferrara converses with lo- cal residents about their origins, the rea- sons they came and their desire to stay, but also survival in the harsh modern world... Ferrara has authored some cult film achievements, such as the 1992 cla- ssic Bad Lieutenant, which quickly gai- ned a cult status.

The most beautiful romantic film love story of the former Yugoslavia, strolling through the oldest psychiatric institution in the Balkans, socialising with brave Serbian rulers – these are just part of the programme of this year’s Night of Museums, which will take place at more than 60 locations across Belgrade on 19 th May. From 5pm to 1am, museums, galleries and nume- rous institutions of culture will open their doors for another May evening that exudes culture, art, curious minds and eyes wide open in the night. Acting legends Milena Dravić and Dragan Niko- lić, the former Yugoslavia’s most beloved couple, both in front of and behind the camera, will be honoured with a new exhibition at the Yugoslav Film Archives Cinematheque, which will be un- veiled at the Night of Museums. The oldest psyc-
hiatric institution in the Balkans – Doctor’s Tower - will pay its respects to its founder, writer, psyc- hiatrist and neurologist Dr Laza Lazarević, while for the first time during the Night of Museums vi- sitors will be presented with the magnificent bu- ilding that was the home of famous critic Vojislav Jovanović Marambo. Visitors to the Museum of the National Theatre will dance with Black and White swans, familiarising themselves with va- rious Belgrade adaptations of Swan Lake, whi- le the brave Serbian rulers of the Obrenović and Karađorđević dynasties will occupy the Cvije- ta Zuzorić Art Pavilion, which will become a true historical pavilion during the Night of Museums, presenting numerous interesting stories from our tumultuous history. Marko Nastić, najpoznatiji srpski di-džej, proslaviće 20 godi- na na sceni velikom žurkom nazvanom Retrospektakl , koja će se održati 19. maja u centralnom magacinu Luke Beograd. Na- stićeva karijera tesno je povezana sa razvojem elektronske muzičke scene u Srbiji, pa ne čudi što je Retrospektakl u na- javi dobio značaj jednog od najzanimljivijih konceptualnih do- gađaja u 2018. Ideja je da slavljenik tokom večeri u back2back setovima ugo- sti više od 30 kolega di-džejeva s kojima je sarađivao tokom dosadašnje karijere i podseti na najveće hitove elektronske muzike koji su obeležili scenu u poslednje dve decenije. Re - trospektakl počinje u 2017. godini, a završava se u 1997. godini kada je Marko započeo karijeru, pri čemu će se na svakih 20 minuta smenjivati po jedna godina i u njoj četiri najveća klup-
ska hita koji su je obeležili. – Kada radim duge setove, uglavnom volim da pustim prvo dugu ambijentalnu pesmu, da me malo relaksira i da na što lakši način finalno prođem kroz ploče i USB-ove. Za ovaj ivent sam planirao da počnem sa Waage-W1 , ona me podseća na rane radove Mauritzia (Basic Chanel), iako je ploča iz 2017. Namerno je iz 2017. jer je ideja ovog projekta da idemo u obr- nutom smeru, dakle – od sadašnjice ka prošlosti. Veliki broj lju- di koji će doći zapravo iščekuje stariju muziku, pa kako bismo upravo s muzikom moje mladosti i pesmama kojima sam se proslavio imali peak time, odlučili smo da na osnovu toga na- pravimo koncept – otkrio je Marko za magazin Elevejt . Centralni magacin Luke Beograd nalazi se u Žorža Klemensoa 39, a može da primi 7.000 ljudi.
Marko Nastić, Serbia’s most famous DJ, will celebrate 20 years on the scene with a big party under the title‘Re- trospectacle’, which will take place on 19 th May in the Central Warehouse of the Port of Belgrade. Nastić’s career is inextricably linked to the development of the electro- nic music scene in Serbia, which makes it no surprise that Retrospectacle has been announced, in terms of impor- tance and attractiveness, as one of the most interesting conceptual events of 2018. The idea for this evening is for the celebrated DJ to be joined in back2back sets by more than 30 fellow DJs wi- th whom he has collaborated during his career to date, with an emphasis on the biggest electronic music hits that have marked the scene over the last two decades. The Retrospectacle starts in 2017, with a return to 1997, when Marko started his career, with every 20-minute spot presenting one year and the four biggest club hits
that marked it. - When I’m doing long sets, I mainly prefer to play a long ambient tune first, to relax me a bit, then to finally pro- gress through records and USBs in the easiest possi- ble way. I’ve planned to start this event with Waage-W1, which reminds me of the early works of Maurizio (Basic Channel), although that record is from 2017. And it is de- liberately from 2017, because the idea of this project is to start in reverse, thus moving from the present towar- ds the past. A large number of the people who will come actually expect older music, so in order for the music of my youth and the songs I’m celebrated for to appear at the peak time, we decided to base the concept on that, reveals Marko for Elevate. The central warehouse of the Port of Belgrade, located at 39 Žorža Klemensoa Street, has the capacity to accom- modate 7,000 revellers.

The Krupaj Spring represents one of the natural rarities and valuable features of the Homolje region. I van Bosiljčić je glumac koji svo- jim ulogama garantuje bezrezer- vnu ljubav publike. Mogli bismo danima da govorimo o tim rola- ma za pamćenje u filmovima, serija- ma i teatrima, ali imamo dobar razlog da se fokusiramo na dve uloge po ko- jima će ga pamtiti scena Pozorišta na Terazijama. Pričamo o Lojki Zobaru i Manetu, dvojici muškaraca koji mož- da formalno govore različitim jezici- ma, ali čija srca razumeju univerzalni jezik slobode i ljubavi. Prvi, glavni ju- nak legendarne predstave Cigani le- te u nebo zapevaće ovog meseca 300. put, dok će Mane svoju Zonu Zamfi- rovu osvajati u jubilarnom, 100. izvo- đenju te predstave. Obojici ste dali glas i stas, ali da počnemo sa starijim, sa Ci- ganinom Zobarom, sa kojim ste i sami rasli i stasavali... Kako se oseća Zobar nakon što tri stotine puta strada sa svojom Radom? – Već 15 godina tumačim ulogu Lojka Zobara, lika iz pripovetke Mak- sima Gorkog, ali tih 15 godina nisu ni- šta spram viševekovne ljudske težnje i čežnje za slobodom. Mnogo sam se promenio u koži Zobara, kao čovek i kao umetnik, ali on skoro da nije ni- malo. Ostao je buntovnik, konjokradi- ca koji se boji vezivanja i koji ne zna da je ljubav najlepša žrtva koju čovek može podneti. Njegova vrela krv ga
nagoni da ljubav tumači jedino kao strast i zato svaki put iznova strada. Bili ste mlad glumac, ali i mlad muškarac kada ste ga zaigrali. Na koji način ste jedan od dru- gog učili kroz sve ove godine? – Kao najbliži svedok Zobarove sudbine, kao neko ko ga je ispovedio 300 puta, dobro sam naučio da je lju- bav sloboda i da je vezivanje za volje- no biće sloboda. Da treba čeznuti za zajednicom, a ne odbacivati je. Posled- nji čin ove predstave dotiče suštin- ski teatar kroz visoku katarzu. Ceo ansambl je svedok da ljudi odlaze sa predstave drugačiji, zamišljeniji. Mož- da joj se zato i neprestano vraćaju. Jednom ste rekli da vas nije iznenadilo trajanje predsta- ve Cigani lete u nebo, jer ste znali da je moć ciganske muzi- ke jaka... Ili je razlog za uspeh ove priče ipak pitanje slobode? – Jedno ne isključuje drugo. Mu- zika je jedan od najboljih jezika ko- jim se mogu izraziti velika osećanja, a Cigani su oduvek o svojim lutanji- ma, patnjama, radostima i čeznji za slobodom pripovedali kroz muziku. Rec je moćna, ali glavni princip mj- uzikla je da kada rečima više ne mo- žete da se izrazite, vi od emotivinog naboja – zapevate. To je tačka u ko- joj se spajaju ciganska muzika i mju- zikl kao teatarska forma i to je kom- binacija koja garantuje katarzičnost
ove predstave, a aktuelnost teme slo- bode, uopšte teme života, danas je vi- še nego očigledna. Mi živimo u vre- me egzistencijalnog vakuuma, kada ljudi imaju sve osim motiva za življe- nje. U takvom vremenu pozorište je jedan od ambijenata koji čoveka mo- gu da trgnu, da ga ohrabre, razbude… U Pozorištu na Terazijama sla- vite ovog maja još jedan jubilej, 100. izvođenje čuvenog Srem- čevog dela „Zona Zamfirova“. Kakav je vaš Mane? – Možda ja ne bih najbolje opisao Maneta iz svog ugla, zato ću parafra- zirati reci Kokana Mladenovića, redi- telja ove predstave, rođenog Nišlije, koji je odrastao uz Zonu Zamfirovu. On je rekao da smo uspeli da napra- vimo autentičnog Maneta za koga bi svaki Nišlija mogao da kaže da ga po- znaje, da tačno kaže gde živi i koje su mu navike. Mane je bekrija, revoluci- onar, inadžija, šaljivdžija, pravdoljubi- vi hajduk koji ume da se pobije i za- peva, da bude i otmičar i poslušni sin u isto vreme, a sve zarad ljubavi. Ni- je mogao da bude drugačiji, kad mu je najbolji ortak tetka Doka, koja mu svakog dana u lice peva: „Kad si mlad, kad si rad, kako smeš da si slab, je l’ si ti moja krv il’ si varoški crv?“. Priča se na pozorišnim daska- ma prilagodila vremenu u ko- jem živimo, ali stvari se zapra- vo nisu mnogo promenile?

I van Bosiljčić is an actor who guarantees the unreserved adora- tion of audiences with his performances. We could discuss his unforgettable roles in films, TV series and theatre shows, but we have good reason to focus on two roles for which he will be re- membered on the stage of Terazije Theatre. Here we’re talking about Loiko Zobar and Mane, two men who perhaps formally speak differ- ent languages, but whose hearts understand the universal language of freedom and love. He will play the the main protagonist in the leg- endary play Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven, for the 300 th time this month, while as Mane he will win over his Zona Zamfirova in the ju- bilee 100 th performance of this play. You have given them both a voice and stature, but to start with the older one, Zobar the Gypsy, with whom you also matured and earned your own stature... How does Zobar feel after suf- fering for his Radda three hundred times? - I’ve spent the past 15 years interpreting the role of Loiko Zo- bar, a character from the stories of Maxim Gorky, but those 15 years are nothing compared to the centuries of human striving and long-

ing for freedom. I’ve changed a lot in the skin of Zobar, as a man and as an artist, but he al- most hasn’t changed a bit! He has remained a rebel, a horse rustler who fears attachment and doesn’t understand that love is the most beautiful sacrifice a man can make. His fiery blood compels him to interpret love only as pas- sion, which is why he suffers again every time. You were a young actor, but also a young man, when you first played him. How have you learned from one another over all these years? - As the closest witness to Zobar’s fate, as someone who has played him three hundred times, I have learned well that love is freedom and that attachment to loved ones is freedom; that there should be longing for togetherness and not a rejection of it. The last act of this perfor- mance touches the essence of theatre through high catharsis. The entire ensemble bears wit- ness to people leaving the theatre after this play changed, more imaginative. Perhaps that’s al- so why they constantly return.
We live in the time of an existential vacuum, where people have everything but a motive to live. In such times, theatre is an environment that can draw a man in, embolden him, awaken him... You once said that you are no longer sur- prised by the enduring nature of the play Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven, because you knew that Gypsy music is powerful... Or is the issue of freedom actually the reason for this story’s success? - One does not preclude the other. Music is one of the best lan- guages to express great emotions, and Gypsies have always expressed tales of their wanderings, sufferings, joys and longing for freedom through music. It is powerful, but the main principle of a musical is that when you can no longer express yourself through words, you sing when emotionally charged. This is the point at which Gypsy mu- sic and musicals as a theatrical form fuse, and that’s a fusion that guar- antees the cathartic qualities of this show. And the current nature of the topic of freedom, as a general topic of life, is today more than obvious. We live in the time of an existential vacuum, where peo- ple have everything but a motive to live. In such times, theatre is an environment that can draw a man in, embolden him, awaken him... You are celebrating another anniversary at Terazije Theatre this May, with the hundredth performance of Stevan Sremac’s famous play Zona Zamfirova. How is your Mane? - Perhaps I wouldn’t be the best to describe Mane from my per- spective, so I will paraphrase the words of Kokan Mladenović, this

– Mi nismo smeštali radnju Zone Zamforove u 21. vek . Ona je ostala u vremenu kada su prvi voz i prvi klavir stigli u Niš. Tadašnja groznica prema pri- padanju Evropi, razlika u društvenim slojevima, za- slepljenost tuđim sjajem, ostali su komično isti kao i danas. Predstava je zapravo stilizacija naše proš- losti. Zona Zamforova, na primer, ne nosi šalvare, već je u ogromnoj krinolini, utegnuta u mider sa dijamantima oko vrata, spremna za udaju na beč- kom dvoru, a Mane u kožnim čizmama do kolena i svilenoj beloj košulji, kožnom mantilu, kao neki pirat spreman da upadne u dom Hadži Zamfira i pod maskom se približi njegovoj ćerki. Verujem da je ovo malo opisanog dovoljno da dođete i vidite zašto je ova predstava osvojila više od 15 nagrada na svim regionalnim festivalima i zašto se svaka izvedba završi višeminutnim stojećim ovacijama. Posle mnogo priča o velikim ljubavima, bi- lo da govorimo o Ciganima ili Zoni, izgle- da da i danas, uprkos duhovnom sunovratu i trijumfu materijalnih vrednosti, mi još ve- rujemo u ljubav? – Ljubav je univerzalna tema koja je podjedna- ko inspirativna i Istoku i Zapadu, i prošlosti i sa- dašnjosti. Samo pojmovi o njoj mogu biti različiti, a mislim da je naše poimanje ljubavi još zdravo ili ba- rem zdravije nego u epicentrima savremenog doba. I samo Pozorište na Terazijama ima neku moć da omađija publiku, a čini se da je imate i vi… – Ne verujem u mađije. Smatram da je svaki trud blagosloven. Da život nagrađuje vredne ljude. Pozorište na Terazijama je teatar visoke discipline i posvećenosti, a to će vam potvrditi svaki glumac koji je došao iz nekog drugog teatra. Iako sam već sedam godina član nacionalnog teatra u Beogra- du, ostao sam veran muzičkom teatru. He said that we succeeded in creating an authentic Mane that every native of Niš could say that they recognise, stating accurately where he lives and what his habits are. Mane is a barfly, a revolutionary, stubborn, a joker, a righteous bandit who is capable of killing and singing, of simultaneously being a hijacker and an obe- dient son, all for the sake of love. And he couldn’t be different if his best friend was Aunt Doka, who sings to his face every day “when you’re young, when you sing, how dare you be weak, are you my blood or a small-town worm?” The story has been adapted for the stage to the time in which they lived, but have things really changed that much? - We didn’t reset the story of Zona Zamfirova in the 21 st century. It remains in the time when the first train and the first piano arrived in Niš. The fever of that time to belong to Europe, differences in social classes, and the blindness to the shine of others, have remained comically the same today. This play is actually a stylisation of our past. For instance, Zona Zamfirova doesn’t wear a shawl, but rather a huge crinoline petticoat, tightened at the waist and with a diamond around her neck, ready to marry at the court of Vienna. And mane, in knee-high leather boots and a white silk shirt and leather coat, is like a pi- rate ready to break into the house of Hadži Zamfira and approach his daugh- ter under a mask. I believe this little description is reason enough for you to come and see for yourself why this play has won over 15 awards at all region- al festivals and why every performance ends with a standing ovation lasting several minutes. After many stories of great love, whether we’re talking about Gypsies or Zona, it seems that even today – despite spiritual descents and the triumph of material values – we still believe in love? - Love is a universal topic that is equally inspiring to both the East and the West, and to the past and the present. Only concepts about it can differ. And I think that our concept of love is still healthy, or at least healthier than in the epicentres of modern times. And only Terazije Theatre has the power to enchant the audience, and it seems you also have that power... - I don’t believe in enchantment. I consider every effort a blessing; that life rewards hardworking people. Terazije Theatre is a theatre of high discipline and dedication, and any actor who’s come from another theatre will confirm that for you. Although I’ve been a member of the National Theatre in Belgrade for seven years, I’ve remained true to musical theatre.
