Mill Rock Packaging Acquires TrojanLitho

New York City based Mill Rock Packaging Partners, LLC, a new platform created by Mill Rock Capital, a private equity firm, an- nounced that it has acquired Renton, Wash- ington based Trojan Lithograph Corporation from Arbor Investments. TrojanLitho is a lead- ing, value-added provider of graphic paper packaging solutions to various consumer end markets. Terms of the TrojanLitho acquisition were not disclosed. Mill Rock Capital created Mill Rock Packag- ing Partners LLC to invest in growth-oriented companies with advanced service and prod- uct capabilities in the specialty packaging industry. Mill Rock Packaging Partners is led by Chairman and Mill Rock Senior Partner Ed Rose and a senior leadership team including its board of directors: • Dr. Robert Beckler, formerly President, Packaging Solutions of WestRock • Robert Feeser, formerly President, Con- sumer Packaging of WestRock • Charles Obermeyer, formerly SVP Global Operations – Folding at WestRock • Alexander Zalesky, formerly General Man- ager of Amcor Latin America

BCN: What criteria did you use to determine the new SuperCorrExpo date of August 8–12, 2021? LM: SuperCorrExpo is one of the largest events of its kind in the world so moving it was no easy task. And, with so many organizations doing the same, our options were limited. Our teams worked 24/7 to find the right space and dates. We were left with two choices: to move it to August of next year, or cancel and wait until 2024. TAPPI’s Corrugated Packaging Division was presented with both options and, after discuss- ing the pros and cons of each, the unanimous decision was August 8 – 12, 2021. We feel this gives our members, attendees and exhibitors more time to focus on their operations and production goals. We know everyone’s focus right now is on continuing to get essential products out to the people who need them. We recognize that and we’ll be ready The Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, will be empty this September 14-18, when SuperCorrExpo 2020 was to have taken place. The event has been rescheduled for August 8-12, 2021 at the same location.

AICC: Exceed Customer Expectations With Key Performance Indicators AICC, The Independent Packaging Association, has re- leased a new free online course for members, Key Per- formance Indicators (KPI), which are dashboard level mea- surements that allow users to monitor their performance. This course shows the process of creating meaningful KPIs that drive better performance. Because the measures are developed to meet or ex- ceed customer expectations, they help create a positive impression with customers as promises are kept. KPIs also help break down the negative perceptions that often exist within a company’s various departments by encouraging them to think of one another as a string of suppliers and customers. Economic activity in the manufacturing sector grew in Au- gust, with the overall economy notching a fourth consecu- tive month of growth, say the nation’s supply executives in the latest Manufacturing ISM Report On Business. The report was issued by Timothy R. Fiore, CPSM, C.P.M., Chair of the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Manufacturing Business Survey Committee: “The August PMI registered 56 percent, up 1.8 percentage points from the July reading of 54.2 percent. This figure indicates ex- pansion in the overall economy for the fourth month in a row after a contraction in April, which ended a period of 131 consecutive months of growth. “The New Orders Index registered 67.6 percent, an increase of 6.1 percentage points from the July reading of 61.5 percent. The Production Index registered 63.3 percent, up 1.2 percentage points compared to the July reading of 62.1 percent. The Backlog of Orders Index reg- istered 54.6 percent, an increase of 2.8 percentage points compared to the July reading of 51.8 percent. The Employ- ment Index registered 46.4 percent, an increase of 2.1 per- centage points from the July reading of 44.3 percent. IP To Invest $175M In Eastover, SC Mill

Weyerhaeuser To Add To Oregon Timberlands

Memphis, Tennessee based International Paper (IP) will in- vest $175 million during the next 10 years in its Eastover, South Carolina mill. The investment will support cost effi- ciency as well as environmental and maintenance initia- tives, according to a news release from Richland County. “International Paper’s ongoing investment in its Rich- land County operations is a testament to the success a business can experience in our community due to our business-friendly environment and skilled workforce,” said Richland County Council Chair Paul Livingston in a news release. “With this $175 million investment, the company is demonstrating a commitment to continued reinvestment in our area.” The Eastover facility has approximately 700 employees and contributes around $90 million in annual economic impact, according to the release. The plant manufactures uncoated freesheet paper and pulp that is converted into products used for education, communication and hygiene. “Our planned investment represents our ongoing fo- cus on maintaining safe and reliable operations, meeting the needs of our customers and providing good jobs to the region,” said Hai Ninh, Eastover Mill Manager. “We are grateful for the support of county leaders and our commu- nity partners as they play an important role in our success.”

Seattle, Washington based Weyerhaeuser Company an- nounced it has entered into two distinct agreements to purchase timberlands from and sell timberlands to funds managed by Hancock Natural Resource Group, a Manulife Investment Management company. The company is purchasing approximately 85,000 acres of timberlands in mid-coastal Oregon in one transac- tion, and selling 149,000 acres of timberlands in southern Oregon in a second transaction. The net cost of these two separate transactions is approximately $40 million in cash. “These two agreements represent a unique opportunity to further enhance Weyerhaeuser’s Western timberlands portfolio with exceptional land that is contiguous with our existing ownership,” said Devin W. Stockfish, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Through these transactions, we are acquiring highly productive timberland with low operating costs and strong access to key domestic and export markets, and we expect them to deliver immediate and long-term value for our shareholders.” The transactions are subject to customary closing con- ditions and are expected to close in the Q4 2020. Weyerhaeuser owns nearly 12.4 million acres of timber- lands in the U.S. and manages an additional 14.0 million acres timberlands under long-term licenses in Canada.

to talk about how this pandemic has changed our industry (for the better) in August. MD : TAPPI and AICC have a great and enduring partner- ship in SuperCorrExpo. After TAPPI and its Committee did the legwork to respond to exhibitors’ concerns given the uncertainty, TAPPI shared the new date with AICC. AICC’s Executive Committee agreed quickly to support the new date for this great event. It was a pretty seamless process. BCN: How has the global corrugated industry respond- ed to the new date? MD : AICC Associate Member exhibitors have been very

positive with the responsive- ness of AICC and TAPPI to their concerns, and the new date in 2021. People may not realize the number of deci- sions that exhibitors have to make well in advance of the actual event. Many ex- hibitors, facing decisions at the height of the pandem- ic, such as booth structure, what equipment to display,

and shipping dates to name a few, were relieved that the new date brings more time and therefore more certainty to their plans. LM : Exhibitors and potential attendees have expressed gratitude that the decision was made early, and that we were able to keep it in Orlando with the same hotels and convention center. BCN : August is traditionally a vacation month for many countries. What incentives will be provided to entice vis- itors to attend? LM : We’re very lucky to have so much support from the industry. Since SuperCorrExpo only happens every four years, and it’s the place to see the latest and greatest in equipment and technology, our attendees and exhibi- tors show up for us. We think they’ll be ready to connect and learn from this pandemic next year. We had many dis- cussions about August. We have given our members, potential attendees, exhibi- tors and sponsors well over a year’s notice and urged them to consider having their fam- ily vacations there. Location, location, location.
