C’est au Centre communautaire du vil- lage que plus de 10 bénévoles dévoués se sont donnés rendez-vous afin de déguster un souper et de fêter, au son du DJ Marty. « Le souper est payé par les pourboires qu’on amasse au Centre communautaire, a expliqué le président du Comité de loisirs de Bourget, JeanDrouin. Ce sont les bénévoles qui s’occupent du restaurant, du bar, du vestiaire et même des toilettes. On se doit donc de bien les gâter! » Parmi les invités d’honneur figuraient Thérèse Lefebvre et Pierre Gauthier ainsi que plusieurs dignitaires de la région dont lemaire de Clarence-Rockland, Guy Desjar- dins, et la conseillère du district de Bourget, Diane Choinière. Mme Lefebvre, récemment retraitée, a été remerciée par M. Drouin pour ses nom- breuses années à titre de directrice des ser- vices communautaires au sein de la Cité de Clarence-Rockland. « La communauté de Bourget vous est très reconnaissante », a souligné le président. Sur ce, Mme Lefebvre a répliqué, micro à la main, qu’elle était fière d’être présente à la fête. « Je suis devant plusieurs bénévoles extrêmement dévoués, a-t-elle exprimé. Le développement économique fait aussi partie des projets de M. Desjardins pour les Comtés unis, lui qui en est main- tenant le président. « On va travailler avec les maires sur ça », a-t-il fait savoir. Une étude à ce sujet vient d’ailleurs d’être terminée. « Je viens de la recevoir. Je suis en train de regarder ça, a indiqué M. Desjardins. On est l’une des seules à ne pas avoir quatre lignes. On a beaucoup de trafic, on est ren- dus à plus de 17 000 voitures qui y circulent pour une capacité de 15 000 environ. Ça crée aussi des problèmes de sécurité. » Le maire a des rencontres prévues au cours des prochains mois à ce sujet, no- tamment avec leministère des Transports. « Le ministère nous a dit d’être patient l’été dernier, mais je pense qu’on a été assez patients. » M. WHY IS AN UPDATE TO THE COMPREHENSIVE ZONING BY-LAW REVIEW REQUIRED? • The update to the comprehensive Zoning By-law is required to effectively implement new policies of the Official Plans by establishing permitted uses and zone standards that reflect the goals and objectives of the new Plan, update map schedules that form part of the Zoning By-law, as well as update the zoning regulations to meet current trends in planning.

Pour entrer en contact avec la Cité, les citoyens devront utiliser les moyens de communication réguliers, soit le courriel ou le téléphone.

L’Artisanat Ste-Trinité donne généreusement L’Artisanat Ste-Trinité de Rockland a remis plusieurs dons à différents organismes de la région, lors de leur souper de Noël. Des denrées non-périssables ont été remises à la banque alimentaire et les membres ont aussi apporté des jouets, des vêtements et autres cadeaux pour les anges de Noël. Mitaines, foulards, chapeaux et cache-cous, tricotés par des membres de l’Artisanat et des amies, ont aussi été remis. L’Artisanat Ste-Trinité de Rockland a aussi remis un don en argent lors de la guignolée.
À la recherche de bénévoles L’organisme Services aux victimes de Prescott-Russell est à la recherche de bénévoles. Le rôle des bénévoles des Services aux victimes consiste, entre autres, à se rendre sur scène lorsqu’il y a des appels d’urgence et apporter du soutien. Une formation est offerte au préalable. Satisfaction reading in school board report
Upper Canada district school trustees enjoyed a positive year-end report before their Christmas holiday break. Director Stephen Sliwa presented his annual report on the 2014-2015 school term to the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) during a recent session before the December holiday break. The report, titled Creating Futures, Lead- ing and Learning for All , summarizes the successes of the Upper Canada district du- ring the previous term in meeting its four strategic priorities of “achieving excellence, ensuring equity, promoting well-being, and enhancing public confidence” throughout the school district. “This report is about the individual and collaborative involvement of everyone in our organization,” stated Sliwa, “to provide our students with the very best public education has to offer.The report is about closing gaps in learning to realize student achievement and potential, and celebrate the success of our students, our schools and our staff.” Details of the report focus on how the UCDSB has worked on improving student skills inmathematics and reading, and also
results in dealing with students mental and physical health needs. Other items covered in the report include

OPP inNapanee came across an unexpec- ted cache of phony U.S. currency while ar- resting twomen formarijuana possession During a search of the suspects’ vehicle, police found $790 in counterfeit U.S. cur- rency, made up of phony $50 and $20 bills. Napanee OPP are continuing their own investigation to determine howmuch, if any, of the bogus money is now in circulation in the area and have already recovered five more of the fake $50 bills. Business owners should advise their staff about being careful when presented with either of these U.S. currenc y denominations. One of the clues to detecting the coun- terfeits is that they will have the same serial number. Anyone with such currency in their possession should take it to the nearest bank for examination. City signs onto Facebook The City of Clarence-Rockland is joining the social media world. On Jan. 5, the City of Clarence-Rockland’s corporate Facebook page appeared online at www.facebook.com/ Cité-de-City-of-Clarence-Rockland. The goal is to have another way for the city to keep in contact with residents alongside the municipal website and the City-Info brochure. The city’s Facebook page will promote special activities and post notices of interest. The page will not serve as a dialogue or debate platform. EOHU launches inspection signage program
The EasternOntarioHealthUnit (EOHU) is rolling out the next phase of its restaurant inspection disclosure system, with the aim of making it easier for residents to make informed decisions when eating out. To increase the visibility of inspection reports, the EOHU has started distributing coloured signs to restaurants for public display. The coloured signs indicate at a glance whether a food premises has received a “Pass” (green sign), “Conditional Pass” (yellow sign) or “Closed” (red sign) ins- pection report. The new signage system is being rolled out starting with premises that prepare, process or handle food, and will progressively expand to all food premises. At every inspection of a food establish- ment, a Public Health Inspector will issue a green, yellow or red sign. Once a sign is issued, the operator is asked to post it imme- diately at or near themain public entrance to the establishment so that it’s clearly visible to the public, until another inspection is conducted and a new sign provided.
A Pass (GREEN) Sign is issued when there is full or substantial compliance with the Ontario Food Premises Regulation, which means that minimum standards of the Onta- rio Food Premises Regulation have been met, fewer than three non-critical infrac- tions were noted, or infractions noted were corrected during the inspection, and food operation is unlikely to cause an immediate risk to public health. A Conditional Pass (YELLOW) Sign is issued when there’s significant non-com- pliance with the Ontario Food Premises Regulation. Significant non-compliance means that a food establishment has three or more non-critical infractions, and one or more critical infraction(s). Food esta- blishments that receive a Conditional Pass sign will be required to have a follow-up inspection, and may receive a ticket if the infractions aren’t corrected by the time of the first re-inspection. A Closed (RED) Sign is issued when the Public Health Inspector has reasonable and
probable grounds to believe that an imme- diate health hazard exists. An order under the Health Protection and Promotion Act is issued to close the establishment, and the operator may be charged. The closed pre- mises can only be re-opened when a follow- up inspection demonstrates that infractions have been corrected and the establishment is free of health hazards. Since 2012, restaurant inspection reports have been available for the public on the EOHU’s inspection website.The inspection website has also adapted to the new colour- coded look, with online reports now being displayed in green, yellow or red according to the inspection result.

Not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees looking to hire full-time workers for summer 2016 can now apply for funding under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. CSJ creates summer job opportunities and valuable work experience specifically for youth aged 15 to 30 intending to return to their studies in the next school year.The pro- gram’s aim is also to help employers create

Wildcats vs. Falcons for hoops title?

Stoqua is looking at an upcoming bas- ketball field trip to the Maritimes to help further sharpen his players’ skills prior to the PR championships. The Falcons head to Cape Breton Island inNova Scotia for the Coal Bowl in New Waterford, running Jan. 31 to Feb. 7. Stoqua and Falcons assistant coach Dave McKinnon themselves played as students in the annual Maritime invitatio- nal basketball tournament and have looked forward to bringing their Falcons over to share the experience. “It’ll be a good experience for these guys,” said Stoqua. “Both basketball-wise and culturally.”
High school basketball competition takes a short break formid-winter exams.Then it’s back on the court for the Prescott-Russell League playoffs, and the inside word is that Clarence-Rockland’s teams may be the ones battling it out at the finish. Wildcats Coach Andrew Lawford figures that RocklandDistrict High School and Saint Francis Xavier Catholic High School over in Hammond will the last schools standing in the playoff schedule. Both his Wildcats and Coach Scott Stoqua’s Falcons have enjoyed almost easy opposition during the regular league schedule except when they square off against each other. “The games have been pretty competi- tive,” said Lawford. “Our only real loss was to SFX.They’re well-coached and disciplined.”

Prep school hockey tournament The first major showcase tournament of the season in Rockland hits the ice at the Cla- rence-Rockland Arena over the mid-January weekend. The Ottawa Prep School Hockey Federation Showcase (OPSHF) will feature teams from English- and French-language pre- paration schools from across Eastern Canada and the American Eastern seaboard. The lineup includes teams from the Falcons of Le Sommet, Bishop’s College Bears, the Everest Academy and Rothesay Netherwood School. – Gregg Chamberlain There is no real break in the training over winter for the senior boys’ soccer team at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic High School. The SFX Falcons made a grand sweep of the opposition during the regular play schedule in the Prescott-Russell High School League. Now they have the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOS- SAA) championships to prepare for in spring. “A lot of them play on club teams during the winter,” said Derek Kunz, SFX Falcons coach, adding that the 2016 Falcons at EOS- SAA should prove a formidable force for the opposition. “These are guys who have played together since they were in Grade 7.” While waiting for May to arrive on the calendar for their EOSSAA expedition, the Falcons senior soccer plays will also occupy themselves with indoor training.
