WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOWABOUT PVCC PLACEMENT TESTS PVCC placement tests can be taken at two locations: The PVCC Testing Center on the Main Campus and the PVCC Eugene Giuseppe Center in Greene County (see page 19 for more information about the Giuseppe Center). The PVCC Testing Center on Main Campus is located in the Main Building (room M607). • There is no fee to take any PVCC placement test. • You may be exempt from taking some or all placement tests if you meet certain criteria. Submit an Online Application Go to www.pvcc.edu/apply to complete a Virginia Community College System (VCCS) application. Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive a Student ID number and username. Make sure to keep this information for your records. 02 Apply for Financial Aid All degree- and certificate-seeking students are encouraged to apply for financial aid. Financial aid may come in the form of grants, scholarships, loans or work-study positions. Learn more on page 6. 03 Meet with an Advisor Make an appointment to meet with an academic advisor. GET CREDIT FOR COLLEGE COURSES TAKEN AT OTHER SCHOOLS Outside VCCS You can get transfer credit for previously completed coursework obtained outside the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). Send your official academic transcripts along with a completed Transcript Evaluation Request Form, which can be accessed online at www.pvcc.edu/transcripteval , to: Piedmont Virginia Community College Admissions & Advising Office | 501 College Drive Charlottesville, VA 22902. From Another VCCS School If you attended another VCCS community college, you can also get transfer credit for previously completed coursework. TUITION PAYMENT DEADLINES Tuition payments for the spring semester vary based on when you register for classes and which sessions you're registering for (e.g., 16-weeks, 12-weeks, etc.). View the full list of tuition payment deadlines on page 9. Students receiving financial aid: If financial aid and scholarships do not cover all charges, you must pay the balance by the deadline noted above or your classes will be dropped. Students taking employer-paid classes: Provide a letter of authorization from your employer to the PVCC Cashier’s Office by the deadline noted above. HOW TO PAY FOR CLASSES Tuition payments can be made by cash, check, debit, VISA, MasterCard or American Express. Payments can be made online at www.pvcc.edu/mypvcc or in person at the Cashier’s Office, located in the Main Building (room M237). Payments cannot be made by phone. Monthly Payment Plan PVCC offers an interest-free monthly payment plan for tuition through Nelnet. Payments are deducted automatically from your bank account or charged to a credit/debit card. Returned Check Policy There is a $35 service charge for handling returned checks or rejected credit/debit card charges. Once you have been notified, your classes will be dropped if you have not remitted payment by the specified due date. Refund Policy Students may withdraw from classes via www.pvcc.edu/mypvcc . Students will be granted a refund for those credits dropped by the published refund dates (see page 8). Refunds will be processed after the last day to drop or change a course for the semester. There will be no refunds after the published dates in the Academic Calendar, which is available at www.pvcc.edu/academiccalendar . Questions? Get a head start filing your FAFSA earlier than ever Instead of waiting until January 1, students and their families can complete the FAFSA as early as October 1 for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year. KATHY HUDSON STUDENT EMERGENCY FUND Providing Assistance for Students in Need The Kathy Hudson Student Emergency Grant Fund provides a quick-response emergency grant to currently enrolled students in good academic standing who are facing a short- term financial emergency that may cause them to withdraw from the college. The goal of the grant is to help students remain in school. Please note that emergency funding is not intended to provide ongoing assistance for routine expenses or as a supplement for educational expenses. Financial emergencies that qualify for grant funding: • Homelessness or sudden loss of housing • Overdue utility bills/turn off notices • Travel expenses due to illness/death in the immediate family • Medical or dental emergencies • Theft of computer, books, clothing, or other essential items • Temporary loss of job or income • Car repair, bus passes, or other transportation needs • Loss of childcare • Other (explanation of emergency is required) Find out more at www.pvcc.edu/emergencyfund

EXCELLENCE STARTS HERE: HONORS PROGRAM Develop academic and leadership skills through PVCC’s Honors Program. Honors classes are smaller and more interactive and provide excellent preparation for transfer to competitive colleges and universities. What are the benefits of joining the Honors Program? • All Honors courses are noted on the student’s transcript. • Students who completed 15 credits of Honors courses with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will receive the Honors Diploma and an Honors medallion that can be worn with their graduation regalia. • Honors students participate in extracurricular activities that include leadership development and service, and many students qualify for unique scholarships. • Several Honors students have been recognized at the national level by being named to the All-USA Community College Academic First Team and at the state level as New Century Scholars (i.e., the top community college student in Virginia). VETS CONNECT @ PVCC A Mentoring & Advocacy Program for Veterans VETS Connect aims to enrich the college experience for new student veterans by linking them with successful retired veterans and volunteers. The program provides support to military personnel transitioning to higher education and future civilian careers. All military- related students enrolled at PVCC are encouraged to participate in the program. According to the National Skills Coalition, almost half of the job openings in Virginia between 2010 and 2020 will require some post-high school education, but not necessarily a bachelor’s degree. What is Network2Work? Network2Work, formerly known as the Charlottesville Works Initiative (CWI), is a job network that connects job seekers to the skills and resources they need to become valued employees, and helps employers find the quality employees they need for their companies. Network2Work is a partnership between PVCC and the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce. Why is Network2Work important? In Charlottesville and Albemarle, 12,024 families, or 19 percent, do not make enough money to pay for the essentials of life—food, shelter, clothing, utilities and the added costs associated with working, such as childcare and transportation. The goal of PVCC’s Network2Work program is to help these families become self-sufficient by identifying jobs within their reach and positioning them to secure and excel in those jobs. What areas are served by this program? PVCC’s program serves the college’s entire service region, which includes the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson.
