A solar-powered sound system is touring festivals this summer
France's summer festivals will feature Pikip's Solar Speakers, a solar-powered mobile DJ booth created by Pantin-based company Pikip. The "Off- Grid" DJ kit uses photovoltaic cells on the roof to support two CDJs, two turntables, a mixer, amp, and speakers that can power a crowd of 1,500 for 10 hours on a single charge. Founder Julien Feuillet said they discovered horn speakers that produce a powerful sound using less energy. The Solar

Black Coffee to make history as the first South African DJ to perform at Madison Square Garden, NY, this October. Black Coffee, a Grammy award-winning DJ, has longed to perform at New York's Madison Square Garden and his dream will soon come to fruition later this year. He will be the first South African DJ/producer to headline the venue, which has a capacity of over 20,700 people. The "Drive" hitmaker shared the exciting news on Instagram, expressing his joy about performing his music and sound at the highest level possible and reaching the largest audience imaginable. Black Coffee also stated that his debut at Madison Square Garden has been a dream of his for many years and he is excited that it is finally becoming a reality.
At just 23 years old, Simphiwe Sihawu (Mr Thela's real name) is already making waves in the music industry. His solo project Tronics Land Series 1 was released in November 2022, and he gained recognition for his joint album Make Cape Town Great Again with DJ Mshayi, which features a new Gqom gospel sound while staying true to the genre's roots in KwaZulu-Natal. The album's lead track iParty became a hit across the country and was even picked up by streaming giant Netflix for the soundtrack of the movie Jiva. Make Cape Town Great Again was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) and was nominated for Best Gqom Album at the South African Music Awards (Sama) 2021. With his talent and success, Mr Thela is another shining example of South Africa's thriving music industry and its global impact.

M eet Kay-Lee Goch, also known as OFFICIAL DJ KAY-DEE, a young and talented female DJ from Cape Town, South Africa, who is taking the music world by storm. With her unique blend of House, Tech-house, Melodic Techno, Techno, and EDM music, Kay-Dee knows how to get the crowd into a state of excitement and energy, and her passion for music has made her one of the most sought-after DJs in South Africa. Kay-Dee's journey began when she completed numerous DJ courses, including the Pioneer Pro DJ course, Ultimate DJ course, Music Production and Turntablism courses, and studied at Cape Audio College. HOW TO BEATMATCH: The basics done well.
I f you've ever been to a club or party where a DJ is playing music, you've likely experienced beatmatching. It's a fundamental technique that every aspiring DJ must learn to master if they want to create seamless transitions between tracks and keep the dance floor moving. Beatmatching involves synchronizing the tempo (speed) and phase (beat placement) of two or more tracks so that they play in perfect harmony. It's a combination of technical ability and musical understanding, and it takes time and practice to master. But with the right guidance and approach, anyone can learn how to beatmatch. The core concept of beatmatching is ensuring that two tracks play at the same speed when the DJ wants to mix songs together. This lets the listeners stay in the groove when they're dancing, and prevents clunky transitions where the beat is all over the place and the music's flow is interrupted.
There are two main components of beatmatching: tempo matching and beat alignment. Tempo matching involves making sure the BPM (beats per minute) is the same between the first track and the second track. If the tracks playing have the same tempo (for example, 120BPM), you can transition between them while keeping the same groove rolling. The second component is beat alignment - making sure the beats within a bar are synchronized between the two songs. For example, most music is counted in four - 1, 2, 3, 4. You want to make sure that beats 1 to 4 are all aligned between the first playing track and the next track before you bring up the volume of the second track and start your transition. Beatmatching is important for several reasons. By playing tracks at the same BPM, the DJ can create seamless transitions where it seems like two songs are blended into one. This is important because it prevents clunky transitions where the beat is all over the place and the music's flow is interrupted.

Another important reason for beatmatching is to make sure that the instrumentation, particularly the rhythm section, is aligned between track B and A. It's not just about getting two tracks to play at the same speed, but also that the arrangements are lined up in a complimentary way.
For example, you want to make sure that the kick drums and snare drums of both tracks are in the same place, otherwise, it will make for a confusing transition that interrupts the groove of the dance floor. If two tracks are beat matched and the songs still clash, you can use EQ mixing to improve the transition.
Here is a step-by-step method for a novice DJ to learn how to beatmatch: • S tart with two tracks that have a similar tempo and structure. This will make it easier to match the beats. • L isten to the first track and identify the downbeat (the first beat of the bar). Tap your foot or nod your head along with the beat to get a feel for the rhythm. • C ue the second track and listen to it through headphones. Find the downbeat and use the pitch fader to adjust the tempo of the track so that it matches the tempo of the first track. • O nce you have matched the tempo, listen for the beat of the second track and try to align it with the beat of the first track. Use the jog wheel or vinyl to manually adjust the placement of the beat until it is perfectly in sync with the first track. • L isten to the tracks together through headphones and adjust the tempo and phase as needed until they sound like they are playing as one cohesive mix. • O nce the tracks are beatmatched, you can begin to blend them together by gradually bringing in the volume of the second track and slowly fading out the first track. Use EQ and volume controls to ensure that the two tracks complement each other and create a seamless transition. • P ractice beatmatching with different genres and tempos to develop your skills and expand your musical knowledge.
Beatmatching is a skill that takes time and practice to master, so don't get discouraged if it doesn't come easily at first. Keep practicing and experimenting with different techniques, and you'll soon be able to mix tracks like a pro.

A udio-Technica is a well-known and respected brand in the world of audio equipment. Their range of audio products is extensive, and they have something for every need and budget. Among their many offerings are the ATH-SQ1TW wireless earbuds, which have gained a reputation for being stylish and functional. The design of the ATH-SQ1TW is simple and elegant, with a square shape and subtle gray logos on each side. The hard plastic fins are more for aesthetic purposes than anything else, and the earbuds themselves are not too bulky, making them comfortable to wear for extended periods. Achieving a secure fit is easy, as Audio-Technica includes four different ear tip sizes to cater to different ear sizes. One of the standout features of the ATH-SQ1TW is the touch-sensitive controls, which are locked until you're ready to use them.
This is a thoughtful design decision, as it eliminates the possibility of accidentally starting music playback before you're ready.
