Since Spring 2019, the Anderson Classroom to Career (C2C) Center has made possible for the School of Business and Economics to have its internship presentations in an expo format, where students who did their internships talk to other students and faculty about their experiences, in a very engaging and interactive atmosphere. WELCOME! Since spring 2019, the Anderson Classroom to Career (C2C) Center has made possible for the School of Business and Economics to have its internship presentations in an expo format, where students who had internships talk to other students and faculty about their experiences, in a very engaging and interactive atmosphere.
Students who visit the expo also have the chance to network with employers in the area and hopefully establish connections for future internships or even full-time job opportunities. We have had students getting internship offers on the spot in the last two expos! We are excited to see everyone at our in-person event on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Students will have the chance to connect with interns and employers, learn about specific internships that were done this fall, and receive Pro Events credit. Here is a preview about our fall 2022 students and their internships.

MAJOR Business Administration
HOMETOWN Walworth, Wis. ORGANIZATION Conserv FS Woodstock, Ill. TITLE Service Center Administrator
What I did: My main role was service center admin., which means I was dealing with all billings, customer walk-ins, payments, bringing product into inventory, making sure invoices were paid, keeping inventory organized, and keeping track of variety and lot numbers on all seed. I was often sent on various missions, including: • dropping drivers off at trucks • running paperwork down to the fertilizer building • bringing applicators out to their machines • running food from seed reps out to drivers and applicators in fields • delivering merch to customers • delivering product/chemical to customers I really enjoyed this part as it helped me build stronger relationships with customers and co-workers What I liked: I really liked that I was able to learn new things and build many many new relationships. I enjoy the flexibility my supervisor gave me and is continuing to give me by sending me on different missions as well as letting me work on school whenever I have the time to. Future Dream Job: I currently do not have a dream job, nor have I ever, but I plan on staying at Conserv and either keep moving up and eventually move to the main office or take on a new role as operator or maybe even go into sales. I’m grateful enough to have seen all different paths that can be taken and what the results could be.

What I did: My daily tasks included scanning and indexing paperwork, checking new hires paperwork, reaching out to potential applicants, sending out incentive gift cards, and assisting with payroll when needed. I also worked on cleaning up information on a platform for all our Subway locations so that it was up-to-date What I liked: I enjoyed getting to see the similarities and differences in how multiple different businesses were ran under one company. The office environment was very friendly, welcoming and laid back which I enjoyed very much. Future Dream Job: My dream job right now would be to work for or run my own real estate and rental housing company.

What I did: I used spreadsheet and database software. Created documents using word processing, integrated desktop and/or graphics software. Stored and retrieved records manually, electronically and using a database. Intake of new clients per established procedures. Calendar, database, and website maintenance and updates. Marketed (social media, fliers, etc.). Put together packets/folders for mailings or for instructors. Assisted as needed on projects for workshops/conferences. Provided on-site event assistance as needed. What I liked: I had the trust from my employer to make decisions regarding marketing, customer relations, and what tasks I did each day. My employer and surrounding Community Education coworkers were welcoming, lively, and always willing to help. Future Dream Job: Scrum Master or case management in a corporate setting for employees who are struggling to help them grow.

What I did: I completed paperwork and tasks for hiring, transferring, promoting, terminating and retiring associates. I also performed drug screens. I answered calls and responded to a multitude of inquiries from associates. I helped associates through their benefit open enrollment period, walking them though the different options and price points for specific benefits. What I liked: Each day was a new day; you never know what kind of questions would come to you.
Future Dream Job: I’m not sure, still exploring different areas.

What I did: I worked on a variety of sales and marketing-related projects, focusing on assisting several key staff with their day-to-day activities. Examples of these projects include, and are not exclusive to, sales prospecting, customer follow-up conversations, customer and prospect presentations, RFP assistance, marketing campaign creation, pricing review, and data researching and entry. I was also responsible for some website inquiries. What I liked: I enjoyed not feeling like I was just an intern. This wasn’t the type of job where I would get them coffee and do all of their dirty work. They put trust in me to do certain tasks, and actually talk and set meetings with potential customers. They made me feel like I was an actual staff member and not just an intern.
Future Dream Job: Regional sales manager or director of sales.

What I liked: • I could work on it whenever I wanted • I could take breaks and work on my regular farm work • I enjoyed talking to my dad (the owner) and my supervisor about the ins and outs of the farm financially • I enjoyed that it benefited the farm, and was fun to do at the same time Future Dream Job: THIS! I love my current job, and I think I want to stay here forever.

Member Service Representative
What I did: • Worked with members to assist in transactions in an efficient and friendly manner • Worked with several systems to process financial transactions, verify information with members and other institutions, and fill out proper forms required for certain transactions • Established connections within my direct department as well as those throughout the organization • Participated in community and company events through Simplicity including making benches for non-profit organizations, helping secure donations for United Way, and participating in Stevens Point Holiday Parade. What I liked: The people. Simplicity has an incredible staff that cares not only about their members, but the people they work with and the organization as a whole. Any questions that I had were happily answered by coworkers and managers alike and everyone was always eager to do their best to assist each other. Management was also eager to give positive feedback when it was due as well as constructive feedback. They also continually asked if there were things that they could do better for not only me, but things that I saw in the organization that could be improved. I never felt like I was out of place there and the great people I worked with made me happy to come in every day. It was great to know that I was seen as someone with real value and that from top to bottom, everyone worked together with a positive attitude and love for what they do. Simplicity is a great company to work for with knowledgeable, helpful, friendly people throughout and I really enjoyed learning and connecting with everyone. Future Dream Job: My dream job would be as a recruiter in the human resource field. Working with people and helping them start their careers is something that really excites me. When thinking of my dream job though I really think it comes down to having the right fit. Any organization could be my dream job as long as it is a place with a vision and people I can get behind. Simplicity has really helped me find out some of the things that can make working somewhere a real joy and not just a job.

ORGANIZATION Evidence 4 Faith Rhinelander, Wis. TITLE Creative and Technical Director
What I did: I did similar duties to my last internship with producing multi-media content and supporting operational administrative duties. The new things I did included: • Managing travel details and communication for a short speaking tour • Publishing a Textbook (that I had started working on in my last internship a year ago!) • Developing a Project Management process for the business • Participate in business strategy setting for the next year and own the process • Help select a new payment processor for donations and financial management What I liked: This semester really stretched me with juggling such a wide variety of projects and tasks. I really liked being able to take what I learned in my Project Management course and bring it to the office every day. That course was a highlight of my semester as my coworkers often asked me what I was learning. The business is less than two years old and we have struggled with communication and deadlines with working remotely. The improvements I have been able to bring have started to make some small but important differences. Future Dream Job: I really wanted to be a creative director but after taking the Project Management course, I think my mindset and skill set are better suited for a project manager. Both jobs require project management skills. I think my ultimate dream job would be a project management position with a creative focus (such as in a studio, events company, media company, etc.). It’s very close to what I am currently doing right now.

What I did: • I processed fresh veggies in the kitchen for Frozen Assets • Promoted Farmshed, fundraisers, and Badgerboxes on Farmshed’s social media • Set up Excel spreadsheets for the Local Food Tastes great fundraiser What I liked: I liked that Farmshed was about making sure that people had good healthy food, while also bringing together farmers and local businesses, to build a stronger community. Buy local, support local! Future Dream Job: My dream job would be one in which I felt that I was doing something that benefited minority groups. I want a job that is fulfilling, helping others, builds others up, one that allows me to constantly be moving and constantly growing and learning.

What I did: Within my position, I filled out and helped with completing benefit forms, tracking spreadsheets (time, benefits, etc.), assisted the HR generalist and the HR director with daily tasks, and arranged welcome baskets for our new hires along with writing out birthday and anniversary cards to our employees. What I liked: I really enjoyed the people at my job. I never had a negative encounter with anyone, and everyone seemed to be completing the tasks that they were given. I developed knowledge along with some new friends and connections which will help me network in the future. Future Dream Job: I am not quite sure what my dream job is, but I know I want to love what I do. I want to go to work every day and look forward to the tasks ahead. I know that I need a career that is challenging yet rewarding and will help support me and my family.

MAJOR Finance HOMETOWN Clear Lake, Wis. ORGANIZATION Northwestern Mutual Stevens Point, Wis. TITLE Financial Advisor Intern
What I did: I worked through courses and trainings to receive my life and health insurance license. I then learned all about the financial planning cycle and how to start building a client base. I did some market surveys to get used to using specific language and then I started making phone calls to set up meetings with new clients, which I sat in on along with one of our experienced financial advisors. What I liked: I enjoyed working with the people at Northwestern Mutual, they are all very nice and welcoming. I really liked learning more about the financial planning process and how Northwestern Mutual focuses on how they can help their clients and not on selling their products or services to the clients. It was fun to make phone calls and get to build my network in and outside of the office.
Future Dream Job: Unknown, possibly a financial planner.

What I did: I helped set up and maximize efficiency of machine schedules to help keep customers and our company up to date on where projects were as they moved through the shop. I also helped work with new product launches and setting up operations paperwork for new customers. What I liked: I really enjoyed the people I worked with, as well as the ability to communicate and connect with a lot of different people throughout the company. In order to maintain and good schedule and flow of projects you have to interact with everyone that touches that piece, so being able to have a say in how fast we are moving products through was very cool. I also really enjoyed being able to see how a professional company interacts with its customers, especially when they make a mistake. Not only seeing the good side of business but also being able to learn from the negatives was very eye opening. Future Dream Job: Leaning towards an HR position where I can interact with people and use my people skills to leave a positive impact on others.

What I liked: I liked learning how important corporate communication is and why it’s vital to use in times of need for different organizations.

What I did: I worked to build a financial planning practice. I did this by calling potential clients and trying to build a relationship and earn them as a client. I would work with these clients to create personalized plans to help them reach their financial and personal goals in life. Using things such as permanent insurance, saving, investing and retirement planning I helped build these plans and presented them to the client. What I liked: I liked the entrepreneurial experience, being your own boss and setting your own calendar is something that I never have been able to do at work before. I liked the community of people that surrounded me as well, it was a very individual driven job for success but there are plenty of people willing to take time to assist you while you are getting the ball rolling. Future Dream Job: While I enjoyed my time, I do not see financial advising as my dream job. I would love to get into the sports industry and in that industry, I would love to be a part of a team’s roster construction or coaching. Some sort of involvement with the team’s success outside of directly playing.

What I did: My duties included scouting of opponents, assisting with the varsity offensive line (coaching, planning, prepping, teaching, feedback) and full control of the JV offensive line. What I liked: Honestly, I enjoyed everything that came with this role. Coaching is a unique opportunity to meet many new people who share a love and passion for the game in a similar way that you do. I really loved getting to know all our athletes and assisting them on and off the field while watching them grow throughout the year. It was a very great experience to be a part of.
Future Dream Job: NFL general manager.

ORGANIZATION Sherwin-Willams TITLE Sales and Management Intern
What I did: • Took orders and determined needs for customers, then recommended appropriate products. • Worked with three of the other interns on a project assigned to us to then present to interns and leadership from other districts and other states. Presentation included speaking to around 100 people. • Was given a glimpse on inventory management looks like in a sales roll. • Closed and opened the store if necessary. • Sourced products from other locations other than the one I was working in, if necessary. What I liked: • While in the moment I did not like a lot of the traveling and running around I had to for the internship so far It has been overall a very positive experience. • The skill set that I have developed so far. In this job you are essentially partners with small businesses, you recommend them sometimes if customers need painters, you help them solve problems they might have on the job site etc. Everyone comes to you with different questions everyday and each situation is a fun puzzle to try and figure out. You are essentially a professional problem solver in this job. Future Dream Job: I’m not sure what my overall dream job is yet, But my dream job within Sherwin-Williams would be one of the sales representative positions. In that position, every day is different and your pay is more easily influenced by the work you put in. You work hard to build a client base and help them when the need arises.

MAJOR Business Administration HOMETOWN Wittenberg, Wis. ORGANIZATION Crane Meadows Golf Course Weston, Wis. TITLE Assistant to Clubhouse Manager
What I did: During my time at Crane Meadows I was involved in all aspects of clubhouse management including but not limited to: purchasing inventory, inventory management and cycle counts, selling tournament offerings to prospective outings, ran social media accounts like Instagram and Twitter, as well as help on any standardization of processes to help the course run more efficiently. What I liked: I really enjoyed getting to know the regular golfers and helping out everyone as much as I could. It was nice to see the business side behind a golf course and learn everything that goes into keeping it up and running. Future Dream Job: As of now, I’m not entirely sure what my dream job would be. I am currently employed at UMR which is under the UnitedHealth Group umbrella. I hope to continue to grow and move up there as opportunities arise.

Management Trainee Intern
What I did: • Worked with customers throughout the entire rental process and follow up after rental ends. • Assist with rate quotes and setting reservation details. • Write rental agreements and assist with vehicle selection. • Answer vehicle feature questions. • Answer billing questions. • Verify that renters are qualified for rental before reservation time. • Inspect vehicles for damage and cleanliness. • Coordinated with body shops to keep fleet records up to date and prevent unneeded downtime for vehicles. • Worked closely with nearby branches to accommodate different customer needs. What I liked: • It was interesting to see the employee dynamic of working in an office environment. • I learned a lot about a variety of different vehicles and the advantages and disadvantages of different options. • I was able to see my learning and progress in my position through sales tracking and branch data that was updated daily.
Future Dream Job: Office administrator.

ORGANIZATION SECURA Insurance Neenah, Wis. TITLE Business Analyst Intern
What I did: In this position I wrote requirements so that the developers could make fixes and updates to one of SECURA’s programs. I then helped tested these changes to make sure they were working as expected. What I liked: I enjoyed seeing how the concepts I learn in class translate to the insurance industry. I also loved the culture at SECURA. SECURA’s mantra is “Be Real. Earn it. Have Fun” and it was this philosophy that created a great work environment that allowed me to strengthen my soft skills while continuing to apply and grow my technical skills. Future Dream Job: My dream job is to work as a data analyst for a company that values a great work-life balance.
