Za nama je pravi slavljenički mesec. Ovog juna obeležili smo 92 go- dine izuzetne tradicije naše avio-kompanije. Neskromno ćemo napisati da je malo svetskih kompanija koje mogu da se pohvale da postoje toliki broj godina. I mada je običaj da se za rođendan dobijaju pokloni, mi smo odlu- čili da darujemo vas. Pred vama je još veći broj gradova u koje možete da putujete, a zbog kojih je niz mogućnosti koje su vam na raspolaganju, još veći. Mislimo da je to jedan od najboljih načina da vam se zahvalimo. Jun je za nas u Er Srbiji bio izuzetno uzbudljiv. To je mesec tokom ko- jeg smo pomerali granice, pravili iskorake i ispisivali stranice nove istori- je srpske avijacije. Sve je počelo prvog dana u mesecu kada smo inau- guracionim letom za Helsinki, u prestonicu „zemlje hiljadu jezera“, poveli predstavnike najznačajnijih medija u Srbiji. Behind us is a true month of celebration. This June, we marked the 92 nd anniversary of the extraordinary tradition of our airline. We do not hesitate to state that there are few companies worldwide that can boast of having achieved so many years of service. And even though tradition dictates that we receive birthday presents, we have decided to present gifts to you. There is now an even larger number of cities you can travel to, thanks to which the range of possibilities at your disposal is even greater. We believe this is the best way to thank you. June has been extremely exciting for us at Air Serbia. This has been the month during which we have pushed our limits, taken steps forward and written pages in the new history of Serbian aviation. It all started on the rst day of the month, when we took representatives of the most signicant media in Serbia to

Krasnodar, Rijeku, Nicu i Kairo, a nešto kasnije na našu mapu letenja upi- sao se i Zadar. Praktično u svakom gradu, koji je u našoj novoj mreži de- stinacija, svi mi smo zajedno sa našim prijateljima, poslovnim partnerima i predstavnicima srpske medijske i kreativne industrije, ispisivali još jednu od brojnih novih priča, čime smo se najbolje uklopili u slogan naše marke- tinške kampanje – „Devet novih priča“. No, najveća ekspanzija u istoriji naše kompanije ovde se ne zaustav- lja. S vetrom u leđa nastavljamo dalje. Već ovog meseca, uz Aerodrom Nikola Tesla, baza za naše avione postaje i Aerodrom Konstantin Veliki u Nišu. Upravo tu, na raskrsnici puteva koji iz samog centra Balkana vode na sve četiri strane sveta, stvaramo još jedno značajno regionalno čvori- šte. Povezujemo nekadašnju prestonicu sa čak 12 evropskih gradova. Po- nosni smo što ćemo raditi na promociji naše lepe zemlje i predstaviti Niš turistima i poslovnim ljudima. Za vas i sa vama nastavljamo da kreiramo nove priče i nove uspo- mene. Hvala što ste deo svih naših pobeda. Uživajte u letu sa nama i srećan put,

We were practically writing a series of new stories in each city that was included in our new network of destinations, together with our friends, business partners and representatives of Serbian media and the creative industries, thus best tailoring ourselves to the slogan of advertising campaign entitled ‘Nine new stories’. However, the biggest expansion in the history of our company does not end here. We are moving forward with the wind in our sails. Constantine the Great Airport in Niš will become the second base for our planes, alongside Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, as early as this month. We intend to make a new important regional hub right there at the crossroads from where the roads lead from the center of the Balkans to all four sides of the world. We are connecting Serbia’s former capital with 12 European cities. We are proud to be able to work on the promotion of our beautiful land and to present Niš to tourists and businesspeople. We continue to create new stories and memories because of you and in cooperation with you. We would like to thank you for being part of our victories. Enjoy ying with us and have a nice trip!

Njoj je pak posebna inspiracija Nikola Tesla, njegov rad i život, i to na više nivoa. U ovom broju predstavlja vam naučnika iz malo drugačijeg ugla. Jelena R. Milenković has spent a decade working in online journalism. She brings readers the most interesting events from the lives of local and world stars. As someone who’s interested in various Lifestyle themes, she also works on biographies of prominent historical figures who have proved inspirational to many. A special source of inspiration for her is represented by Nikola Tesla, whose work and life is impressive at several levels. For this issue she presents this scientist to us from a slightly different perspective.

Ksenija Kastratović je istoričarka umetnosti i osnivačica portala

Ljiljana Perović je sa 16 godina iz Sarajeva došla u Beograd. Tad je i počela njena manekenska karijera, a šest meseci kasnije svi su već bili čuli za njeno ime. Važila je za jednu od naših najlepših manekenki, bila je Titova ljubimica, a nakon manekenske karijere posvetila se novinarstvu. Danas je modni stilista u magazinu Blic žena . U ovom Elevejetu nas vodi kroz Rim sa svojim prijateljem i kolegom Đuzepeom. Ljiljana Perović came to Belgrade from Sarajevo at the age of 16. It was also then that she started her modelling career, and within six months she had become a household name. Known as one of our most beautiful models, she was a favourite of Tito, and after her career as a model she dedicated herself to journalism and is today known as the editor of women’s publication Blic žena. For this issue of Elevate she leads us through Rome with her friend and colleague Giuseppe.

Miodrag Dimitrijević Sobinac strastveni je ljubitelj sporta i (pop) kulture. Ovaj Vranjanac je u rodnom gradu završio osnovnu školu i gimnaziju, dok je u Beogradu diplomirao na Filološkom fakultetu na grupi Srpska književnost. Uživa u pisanju, a svrab prstiju ga je odveo ka sportskom novinarstvu i povremenoj književnoj kritici. Poznaje tri jezika, ali se najčešće oslanja na engleski. U ovom broju nam donosi priču o legendarnim Lejkersima. Miodrag “Sobinac” Dimitrijević is a passionate lover of sport and (pop) culture. A native of Vranje, it was there that he completed primary and high school, before graduating from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philology, in the Serbian Literature group. He enjoys writing, and his itchy fingers led him into sports journalism and occasional literary criticism. He speaks three languages, but most often relies on English. For this issue he brings us a story about the legendary L.A. Lakers.

In 2013/2014, under the auspices of her postgraduate studies at Rome’s Sapienza University, she had the opportunity to familiarise herself with Baroque Rome, through the lectures and lessons of its top connoisseurs. She often guides her friends through exhibitions and events both on her travels and in Belgrade.

Zato se novoosnovani Muzej istorije žena u Stokholmu fokusira na prisustvo lepšeg pola u istoriji. Muzej nema svoju zgradu, već prikazuje događaje tamo gde su se i odigrali – u javnim prostorima. Zamišljen je kao saradnja muzeja, arhiva i pozorišta i želi da ispriča priče o ženama koje su za mnoge nepoznate.

Despite the fact that women comprise half of the world’s population, the dominant heritage and historical narratives around the world are deep- ly patriarchal – men are the main protagonists of history. That’s why the newly founded Museum of Women’s History in Stockholm focuses on the presence of the fairer sex in history. The museum does not have its own building, but rather depicts events where they took place – in pub- lic spaces. Conceived as a collaboration between museums, archives and theatres, it seeks to tell stories about women that are unknown to many.

In order to deal with the over 20 million tourists that visit the city annually, Amsterdam has con- ceived a brilliant campaign un- der the title“Marry an Amsterdam- mer”. During this city tour, tourists rst marry locals, even exchanging rings, and then begin their honey- moon. Accompanied by their new spouses, tourists travel to less com- mercialised parts of the city and fa- miliarise themselves with Amster- dam from the perspective of local residents. The goal of the cam- paign is to better acquaint tour- ists and locals and thus reduce the tension between them that has been evident in recent years.

Kako bi izašao na kraj sa više od 20 miliona turista koji ga godišnje posete, Amsterdam je osmislio super akciju Marry an Amsterdammer . Tokom ove ture, turisti se prvo venčavaju sa lokalcima, čak se i prstenje razmenjuje, a nakon toga počinje medeni mesec. Sa svojim novim supružnicima turisti obilaze manje komercijalizovane delove grada i upoznaju Amsterdam iz ugla domaćih stanovnika. Cilj akcije je da se turisti i lokalci bolje upoznaju i da se smanji tenzija koja među njima vlada poslednjih godina.

Pula Sve je spremno za filmski festival

Pula Everything ready for film festival

Od 13. do 21. jula u Hrvatskom programu 66. Pulskog filmskog festivala takmičiće se 14 filmskih naslova, a festival će otvoriti film General Antuna Vrdoljaka. Uz dugometražni, biće predstavljen i Program kratke Pule, koji čini sedam kratkih igranih filmova. Na zatvaranju festivala, čiji je zaštitni znak Arena u kojoj se filmovi gledaju pod zvezdama, biće prikazan dokumentarni film o čuvenom Oliveru Dragojeviću. Inače, Pulski filmski festival je najstariji filmski festival u Hrvatskoj i jedan od najstarijih u Evropi.

In Croatia from 13 th to 21 st July, the pro- gramme of the 66 th edition of the Pu- la Film Festival will see 14 lms com- pete, while the festival will open with a screening of Antun Vrdoljak’s lm Gen- eral. Alongside full-length feature lms, the Pula shorts programme will also be presented, featuring seven short fea- ture lms. The closing ceremony of the festival, the symbol of which is the Pu- la Arena, where lms are watched under the stars, will include the screening of a documentary about the famous Oliver Dragojević. Interestingly, the Pula Film Festival is Croatia’s oldest lm festival and one of the oldest in Europe. London Changes at Wimbledon Wimbledon 2019 starts on 1 st July, and this year the All England Club’s No.1 Court will also have a retractable roof. Moreover, another novelty is the fact that the tournament’s prize money has also been increased, while the rules regarding matches played over several days have been changed in response to last year’s marathon semi-nal match between Đok- ović and Nadal. It has been decided that matches ending at 11pm under indoor conditions will continue outdoors the next day. A fth set tiebreaker has been introduced, thus ending the previous tra- dition of seemingly endless matches.

London Promene na Vimbldonu

Vimbldon 2019. počinje 1. jula i od ove godine i teren broj jedan imaće pokretni krov. Takođe, novina je i to da je povećan nagradni fond turnira, kao i da su zbog prošlogodišnjeg maratonskog polufinala Đokovića i Nadala promenjena pravila u vezi sa mečevima koji se igraju u više dana. Doneta je odluka da se mečevi koji se završe u 23 časa u dvoranskim uslovima sutradan igraju na otvorenom, ako ne bude kiše. Takođe, uvodi se taj- brejk u petom setu, čime će se prekinuti sa dosadašnjom tradicijom trajanja mečeva unedogled.

Sa dolaskom leta kulturni kalendar Barselone ispunjen je beskrajnim feštama i umetničkim događajima. Ipak, jedan festival već više od četiri decenije predstavlja glavnu letnju atrakciju grada. Reč je o festivalu The Grec , koji traje tokom celog jula, a posetiocima nudi brojna dešavanja, od pozorišta i plesa do muzičkih i cirkuskih performansa zabavljača iz celog sveta. Glavno mesto dešavanja je Teatar Grec .

With the arrival of summer, Barce- lona’s cultural calendar is lled with endless festivities and artistic events. However, one festival has represented the city’s main summer attraction for over four decades. The Festival Grec de Barcelona, which runs throughout the whole of July, oers visitors a wide array of happenings, from theatrical and dance shows to music and circus performances from around the world. The main venue of events is the city’s open-air Teatre Grec theatre. Prague Cinema on the water In the build up to the summer sea- son in the Czech capital,‘Kinolod’ has opened, as the rst cinema on a ship anchored on the River Vlta- va in the Holešovice district. The cinema has 80 seats and screens domestic and international lms, with Czech works being shown with English language subtitles. It is also envisaged that this beau- tiful and pleasant ambience on the water be used to stage thea- tre plays and concerts in the peri- od ahead.

U susret letnjoj sezoni, u češkoj prestonici otvoren je Kinolod, prvi bioskop na brodu, usidrenom na reci Vltavi u distriktu Holešovice. Bioskop ima 80 mesta i prikazuje domaće i strane filmove, s tim što se češka ostvarenja prikazuju sa titlom na engleskom jeziku. Predviđeno je i da se u ovom lepom i prijatnom ambijentu na vodi u narednom periodu održavaju i predstave i koncerti.

Thanks to its geographical latitude, St. Petersburg is known for the extraor- dinary natural phenomenon dubbed ‘White Nights’, which served to inspire the creation of the international art fes- tival “Stars of the White Nights”. This year’s 27 th edition of the festival, to be held at Mariinsky Theatre until 21 st Ju- ly, will bring together Russia’s best ballet dancers, opera singers and symphony orchestras. During the period of White Nights, St. Petersburg is visited not on- ly by lovers of music and art from all over Russia, but also from abroad, while many critics rank this festival among the world’s top ten.

U podrumu današnje Gradske biblioteke na- lazi se ulaz u Kalemegdansku tvrđavu. Ta, kako se sada zove Rimska dvorana, koja je prostor za izložbe i književne večeri, čuva temelje bedema i deo glavne kapije nekadašnjeg rim- skog utvrđenja. Kastrum je podignut krajem 2. ili po- četkom 3. veka i u njemu je bila stacionirana jedna od najsposobnijih legija za odbranu od varvarskih na- pada, Flavija Feliks, a iskopine su pronađene kada je biblioteka renovirana osamdesetih godina prošlog veka. Oko tog vojnog logora razvijalo se naselje Sin- gidunum, koje su Rimljani nasledili od Kelta. Rimski Beograd protezao se sve do zgrade Narodne bibliote- ke na Kosančićevom vencu, gde su takođe pronađeni ostaci rimskog Beograda. Ovaj, u Gradskoj biblioteci atraktivan arheološki lokalitet živi ne samo od pogle- da turista i znatiželjnika već i od generacija Beogra- đana, koji u Rimsku dvoranu dolaze po umetnost, da se kroz te imaginarne daljine lakše povežu sa zvecka- njem rimskih oklopa i topotom konjanika davnašnjeg Trag antičkog Beograda pratimo i u najprometni- joj pešačkoj ulici u Beogradu. Naime, Knez Mihailova ulica je u vreme Rimljana bila Via Kardo, glavni prila- zni put koji je vodio do Kalemegdanske tvrđave. U toj ulici, u prolazu koji spaja Knez Mihailovu sa Vasinom ulicom, između modernih izloga i metalnih arhitekton- skih konstrukcija vide se predmeti iz perioda od 2. do 4. veka, koji su iskopani baš na tom potezu. Predme- ti izloženi u vitrini, rimski nakit ili posuđe, svedoče o tome kako su ljudi tada živeli, baš kao što i bankomat koji se nalazi preko puta tih vitrina svedoči o tome ka- ko mi danas živimo i kako novac „kujemo“. Ovaj nas prolaz podseća na to da smo mi samo trenutni kori- snici ovog grada, prolaznici, kao što su bili i Rimlja- ni pre nas. I da zato treba da pazimo šta ostavljamo! TERME NA PLATOU Na prostoru od Studentskog trga do platoa ispred Filozofskog fakulteta, u vreme dok su grad naseljava- li Rimljani, bile su terme. Osim svoje osnovne funk- cije javnog kupatila, za Rimljane su terme bile mesta susreta, druženja, poslovnih sastanaka, a neke su čak imale i svoje biblioteke. Da li se toga nekad sete i stu- denti Filozofskog i Filološkog fakulteta koji svakod- nevno prolaze platoom, a koji su zatrpani knjigama i spiskovima literature, pa im je spa misaona imenica, to ne znamo, ali ovi ostaci termi svakako jesu kulturno nasleđe koje se svakodnevno koristi. Reč je o tri spo- jena zidića, takozvane apside u obliku potkovice, koji se naslanjaju na zgradu Rektorata. Terme, koje su sa- građene krajem 3. veka, otkrivene su 1968. i tada je ot- kopano osam prostorija koje pripadaju jednom usta- ljenom tipu antičkih termi. Najveći deo termi bio je u Studentskom parku, ali je sedamdesetih godina od- lučeno da budu zakopane, jer se tako najbolje čuvaju. u nedeljno prepodne zapio u gaz- da-Mitinoj kafani. DŽAMIJA I TURBE Bajrakli džamija je jedina sa- čuvana džamija od 273, koliko ih je postojalo u turskom Beogradu. Sagrađena je oko 1575. godine, pr- vobitno je nazvana Čohadži džami- ja po zadužbinaru, trgovcu čohom Hadži Aliji. Godine 1717. Austrijanci su je pretvorili u katoličku crkvu, i to je bila sve do 1739, a 1741. ponovo je postala džamija. Bajrakli džami- ja nazvana je po barjaku koji se na njoj postavljao kako bi označio po- četak molitve u svim drugim grad- skim džamijama. Tokom 19. veka knez Mihailo Obrenović i kralj Alek- sandar Obrenović učestovovali su u njenoj obnovi. Svoju burnu istoriju džamija je oduvek delila sa gradom... Još jedan redak primer otoman- ske arhitekture u Beogradu je i šejh Mustafino turbe. Reč je o grobnici starešine derviša šejh Mustafe, ko- ji je bio poreklom iz Beograda. Na uglu ulica Višnjićeve i Braće Jugo- vić nekada je postojala tekija, a ovo turbe jedino je sačuvano iz tog peri- oda. Sagrađeno je od kamena u pe- riodu od 1783. do 1784, a na zidovi- ma su s unutrašnje strane ispisane reči iz Kurana. KRALJA PETRA I DUŠANOVA Dorćol je nekadašnji Beograd, a raskrsnica Ulice cara Dušana i Uli- ce kralja Petra, koja se nastavlja na Dubrovačku, odredila je naziv čita- vog kraja. „Dort jol“ na turskom je- ziku znači četiri puta i to je raskršće bilo glavni trgovački centar evrop- ske Turske jer je vodilo ka Istanbu- lu, Vidinu, Beču i Dubrovniku. Emilijan Josi- mović, prvi gradski urbanista, pred- ložio je 1887. da deo pijace postane park, a na Velikoj pijaci se kupova- lo sve do 1926, kada ceo prostor po- staje park. Koliko je voće i povrće tada bilo skupo, koliko je tog leta koštala kokoška za supu što se živa donosila kući, te podatke nemamo. Ali dok sedimo u parku i sunčamo se, u dremežu možda možemo čuti šta nam došaptava jedna pra-praba- ka sa Dorćola, ljuta na muža što se

I n the basement of today’s City Library is located an entrance to Kalemegdan Fortress. What is nowadays referred to as the Roman Hall, and which serves as a venue for exhibitions and literary evenings, preserves the foundations of the ramparts and part of the main gate of the former Ro- man fortication. The castrum was erected at the end of the 2 nd century or the begin- ning of the 3 rd , and stationed there was one of the most competent legions for defence against barbaric attacks, Flavia Felix, while the remnants and ruins were found when the library was renovated in the 1980s. It was around this military camp that the Singidu- num settlement developed, which the Ro- mans had inherited from Celts. Roman Bel- grade stretched all the way to the building of the former National Library in the Kosančićev Venac [Kosančić’s Wreath] neighbourhood, where traces of Roman Belgrade were also discovered and excavated. This attractive ar- chaeological site in the City Library lives not only from the views of tourists and curious bypassers, but also from the generations of Belgraders who come to the Roman Hall for arts, to more easily connect via these imag- inary distances with the clinking of Roman armour and the cannon of the horsemen of ancient Singidunum.

We don’t have any information on how expensive fruits and vegetables were back then, or how much it cost during those summers to buy a hen for soup that was brought home still alive. But while we sit in the park and bask in the sun, in our slumber we may be able to hear what would be whispered to us by an old great- great granny of Dorćol, angry with her hus- band for getting drunk on a Sunday morn- ing in Mitina’s tavern.

socialising, business meetings, while some even had their own libraries. Is that some- times recalled by the students of the facul- ties of philosophy and philology, who pass through the plateau on a daily basis, overlad- en with books and lists of literature, and for whom spa is a considered noun? We don’t know, but the remains of these baths certain- ly represent a cultural heritage that is used on a daily basis. These are three connected walls, so-called apses in the shape of a horse- shoe that are propped up against the build- ing of the Rectorate. The baths constructed at the end of the 3 rd century were discov- ered in 1968, and at that time eight cham- bers were excavated that belong to an es- tablished type of ancient thermal baths. The largest part of the spa was in Students’Park, but it was decided in the 1970s that it would be buried, as the best way to ensure its pres- ervation. All that’s remained is the part with the students, to stand as a living lesson for Belgraders about the archaeology and his- tory of their city.

MOSQUE AND TOMBS

Bayrakli Mosque is the only preserved mosque of the 273 that existed in Turkish Belgrade. Built around 1575, it was original- ly called the Chokhadzhi Mosque, according to the endowment of choh trader Hadži Ali- ja. The Austrians converted it into a Catholic church from 1717 to 1739, then from 1741 it once again became a mosque. Bajrakli mosque was named after the banner [bar- jak] that was placed on it to mark the begin- ning of prayers in all other city mosques. Dur- ing the 19 th century, Prince Mihailo Obrenović and King Aleksandar Obrenović participat- ed in its reconstruction. This mosque has al- ways shared the turbulent history of the city in which it lives... Another rare example of Ottoman ar- chitecture in Belgrade is the Sheik Musta- fa Tomb. This is actually the mausoleum of senior dervish Sheik Mustafa, who was orig- inally from Belgrade. A tekye was once lo- cated on the corner of Višnjićeva and Braće Jugović streets, while this tomb is the only structure preserved from that period. Built from stone in the period from 1783-1784, passages from the Qur’an were written on the interior walls.

GREAT MARKET

Students’Square is Belgrade’s oldest city square, the central part of which comprises a park. Known as Students’Park, this place was once a Turkish cemetery, and from 1824 was the site of the Pazarište, Belgrade’s rst mar- ket. The market was formed following the complaints of peasants, because their goods were being bought cheaply by the Turks and then sold on at high prices in the towns. Prince Miloš, together with the Belgrade vizier, con- vened a meeting to discuss this proposal, in- viting prominent citizens among both Turks and Serbs, and it was agreed that a market would be formed in Belgrade where every- one would be able to bring and trade their products. After the departure of theTurks, the Great Market, as it was called, long remained the only place for trading in Belgrade. Emili-

We follow the traces of the Belgrade of antiquity in the city’s busiest pedestrian street. Namely, Knez Mihailova [Prince Mihai- lo’s] Street, which during the time of the Ro- mans was known as Via cordo, the main ac- cess road leading to Kalemegdan Fortress. In that street, in the passageway that connects Knez Mihailova with Vasina Street, between modern window displays and metal architec- tural constructions, you can see archaeolog- ical nds dating back to the period from the 2 nd to the 4 th centuries, which were excavat- ed along that precise route. Items displayed in showcases, Roman jewellery or pottery, testify to how people lived at that time, just as the cash machine located opposite these display cases testies to how we live today andhowwe“mint”money.Thispassageway reminds us that we are only the current us- ers of this city, passing through, like the Ro- mans before us. And that’s why we should be careful what we leave behind!

Dorćol was once all of Belgrade, and the junction of the streets named after Emper- or Dušan and King Peter, which continues in- to Dubrovnik Street, determined the name of the entire neighbourhood.‘Dort jol’means four roads in Turkish, and this crossroads was the main shopping hub of European Turkey, as it led to Istanbul, Vidin, Vienna and Dubrovnik. The history of this crossroads also shows the terri- ble times for life in Belgrade, because the Turks displayed the severed heads of all the disobe- dient there. During the period of Turkish rule in Belgrade, the main street, main market, was Kralja Petra Street, and it was then called Glav- na [Main],Trgovačka ulica [Merchants’Street]. It was divided into three parts: the main market, Zerek and Dorćol. The main market extended from the Cathedral Church to the corner of Kn- ez Mihailova and Kralja Petra. Downhill, along the street to Tsara Dušana Street, sprawled Ze- rek, the most active part of the city, with trad- ers, while Dorćol extended from Dušan’s street towards the Danube. Today’s Dubrovačka Street was a colony of merchants from Dubrovnik who came to Belgrade during the 16 th and 17 th cen- turies and stimulated the city’s economy. And still today, as you head down Kralja Petra Street on foot, you can feel the spirit of the great city, and standing behind every shop worker or own- er today are generations of predecessors, trad- ers who, like those of today, cleaned the display cases and added decorations, inviting neigh- bours and customers to drop by and see what they have to oer.

Gra- ditelj kuće bio je Švajcarac Nikola Doksat de Morez, koji je imao zada- tak da obnovi i ojača kalamegdan- sko utvrđenje. Ali ono što kuću čini još intrigantnijom od njene starosti su navodno lagumi i podrumi kroz koje je moguće doći do Kalemeg- danske tvrđave. Kakva bi to šetnja bila podzemnim Beogradom da se uđe u tu kuću i stigne do Kalemeg- dana, može se samo pretpostaviti. MALI AMAM Na adresi Cara Dušana 45 nalazi se javno kupatilo nastalo još za vre- me turske vladavine. „Mali amam“, kako su ga Turci zvali, na toj je adre- si od 1863. U središtu kupatila nalazi se kružni bazen, amam i manji pra- vougaoni bazen, koji se punio hlad- nom vodom. Orijentalnu senzualnu naviku javnog banjanja nasledili su mlađi Beograđani. Javno kupatilo obnovili su 1901. ugledni beograd- ski trgovci, braća Krsmanović.

TSARA DUŠANA #10

At number 10 Tsara Dušana Street stands the oldest preserved house in Belgrade. It was built in 1727, which marked the start of Austrian rule over Belgrade, but also the time when the ar- chitectural Europeanisation of Belgrade began. The house was constructed by Swiss native Niko- la Doksat de Morez, who was also tasked with restoring and reinforcing Kalamegdan Fortress. However, what makes this house even more in- triguing than its age are the alleged caves and cellars through which it is possible to access Kale- megdan Fortress.

Belgrade has been home to Celts, Romans, Turks, Greeks, Tsintsare, Jews et al. LITTLE HAMMAM

At the centre of the baths is a circular pool, a hammam, and a smaller rectangular pool that’s lled with cold water. The oriental sensual habit of public bathing was also inherited by later Belgraders. These public baths were renovated in 1901 by the Krsmanović brothers.

Osim svoje komunikacije ka inostranstvu, njen aspekt ka građanima Srbije od presudnog je značaja zbog motivacije i identifikacije mladih kreativnih lju- di. Brendiranje ove platforme je sprovedeno u savre- menom estetskom maniru koji univerzalno komuni- cira pozitivno kretanje ljudske misli, kreativnu iskru koja pomera čitavo društvo, kao i neophodno izlaže- nje iz ustaljenih okvira.

DESIGN = PASSION, DEDICATION, HONESTY It has long been time for design to become an integral part of industry, and not just some mere superuous element, something out of the ordinary that is only the inclination of some rare, globally-aware investors and companies. Everyone on the market who is serious understands this, so I see the future of design in Serbia in a very positive light – says the renowned Futro S lavimir Stojanović, aka Futro.This Belgrade-born designer, visual artist and writer is a multi-award-winning author whose works have been published in the most important publications and can be found in the world’s museums of design, ad- vertising and art. He was recently included inTaschen’s History of Graphic Design and is the founder of the creative communications studio Futro Design.The author of the Adventures of Singi Lumba, a series of illustrated children’s books, he also wrote the hit au- tobiographical novel Devet (Nine). A professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, he is also editor-in-chief of Plima (Tide), a visual communications magazine for students Your work was recently published in the book The History of Graphic Design, re- leased by Taschen. How did this collaboration come about, and how satisfying is it to be acknowledged and rewarded by an international audience? Considering that we here in the southeast of Europe are eternally sidelined on the margins of the continent, and thus to the periphery of global cultural ows, being includ- ed side-by-side with legends and role models of graphic design in such an extensive and important encyclopaedic publication is something that I not only consider as a personal success, but also a success of the entire cultural environment that I present with my work. You’ve started working at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. What is it im- portant for you to relate to students? My aim is to save them years and years of chasing their own tail and to provide them with insight into the broader picture, both of visual communication as a profes- sion, and of the local environment and global circumstances in which they are prepar- ing to create. The most important factor in this process is to develop three traits: pas- sion, dedication and honesty. You also started working on a magazine with students. What is it about? Magazine Plima (Tide) is dedicated to university students and school pupils who are being trained in visual communication on the territory of Serbia, detailing their best projects and presenting this wave of talent every June. Plima’s editorial board compris- es selected professors from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, which is also where this magazine was launched. Plima is bilingual, produced in Serbian and English, so it si- multaneously represents a platform to promote our creativity beyond the borders of Ser- bia. We’ve also devised the rst one-day conference of visual communications for next year, Plima 2020, at which pupils and students will be able to hear lecturers from the re- gion and Europe, with an awards ceremony to present prizes to the best student pro- jects in the elds of graphic communications, illustrations, photography, designs of pub- lications, posters, packaging, animation and typography. How do you see the future of design in Serbia? It has long been time for design to become an integral part of industry in our coun- try, and not just some mere superuous element, something out of the ordinary that is only the inclination of some rare, globally-aware investors and companies. Design stim- ulates sales and improves the functional and aesthetic qualities of everyday life. Every- one on the market who is serious understands this, so I see the future of design in Ser- bia in a very positive light You are part of the new Serbia Creates platform. - Serbia Creates is a communication platform that has the main task of bringing to- gether and marketing the country’s creative potential, in order to ease placements on developed markets. Apart from its communications directed abroad, the aspect direct- ed towards citizens of Serbia is also of crucial importance to the motivation and identi- cation of young creative people. This platform’s branding has been conducted in a mod- ern aesthetic manner that communicates universally the positive movement of human thought, the creative spark that moves an entire society, as well the necessity of break- ing away from established frameworks.
