I soon learned that skill, talent, and intelligence were not the defining factors for success. Those whom I had prejudged consistently proved me wrong! Although many of the bright, skilled, and experienced people have done very well, many have not. And yet many of those whom I thought would not make it have done extremely well. Although there are vast differences among those who have had success with Melaleuca, there is one trait shared by all those who have been very successful: that trait is tenacity! I would define tenacity as ‘focused energy,’ a single-mindedness of almost constantly working their business during normal business hours; they are at it day in and day out. They do not let go of their goals. They do not wait for something to happen, they make things happen! It does not matter much how bright they are or how skilled they are. I have seen many who have lacked social skills and people skills who could, in no way, be considered ‘polished’ —yet they become Executive Directors, earning in excess of $100,000 annually just by sticking with it every single day. You can’t catch a thing unless you keep your line in the water

We have learned a lot in the 30 short years we have been in business. Some of those things have to do with what factors make the biggest difference in building a large Melaleuca business. For some time now I have observed how different people approach working their business. It is obvious that some are much more successful than others. The reason why they are more successful has also become very apparent. In the early stages of our company I made the mistake of believing that other people’s success would be determined by their skill levels, by how talented they were and how bright they were. When I met new Marketing Executives I made the mistake of ‘prejudging’ them as to whether they would be successful or not. I didn’t do it consciously or with any ill intent, but I found myself making a subconscious ‘check mark,’ as if to say, “Boy! This person will do really well!” or ‘I doubt this person will ever make Senior Director—I hope she has someone to help her!” I soon learned how wrong I was to be so audacious as to believe that I had the ability or even the right to have any preconceived notions about anyone before they had the chance to prove themselves.

By ‘sticking with it,’ I mean they regularly and systematically add to their contact list, make 20 phones calls per week, enrol new customers, and help those customers build a Melaleuca business. I have been delighted to watch what happens when someone makes a goal and sticks with it until that goal is achieved, no matter what kind of distraction may come their way. Some businesses move more quickly than others. The speed of the growth of each business has more to do with the tenacity of the leader than any other factor. Those who are not tenacious are easily distracted; day-to-day life gets in the way, or they busy themselves with unproductive activities. With Melaleuca, productive activities are the Seven Critical Business-Building Activitie s: 1) Keep Building Your Contact List 2) Set Appointments (20 phone calls per week) 3) Share Melaleuca: An Overview 4) Strategy Session Within 48 Hours 5) Celebrate Success 6) Always Be Involved with Fast Track 7) Lead by Example Unproductive activities would include pretty much all other activities except the activities listed above. When my children were smaller I took them fishing a lot. In truth, I do not enjoy ‘fishing’ nearly as much as I enjoy ‘catching’. We had a family motto: “While others go fishing, we go catching!” I taught my kids that if they were going to be serious about “catching,” they had to keep their line in the water. They repeatedly heard me say, “You can’t catch a fish with your line out of the water!” They got tired of hearing it, but those who were tenacious about keeping their line in the water caught lots

of fish, while those who got distracted and fiddled around with other things never caught much of anything. At Melaleuca, making phone calls, setting appointments, and making presentations are the same as having your line in the water: if you are not doing them consistently, you may be having a great time but your business will not be growing much. It is great to know that success with Melaleuca does not depend on some endowed gift or combination of skills. In all cases, success with Melaleuca comes from tenacity: never losing focus on contacting potential customers and making presentations. It’s a simple concept, and it’s totally within our control. Everyone—including you—can do it if you stick to it! If you want your business to grow faster, make sure your line is always in the water!

E very month, I get the all of whom are changing their lives with Melaleuca. Enhancing lives is at the heart of everything we do, from creating quality products to offering customers an additional stream of income. To illustrate, I wanted to share with you three stories of North American families not unlike your own who are usingMelaleuca and it’s unique business plan to change their lives. opportunity to hear from hundreds of families from all backgrounds and walks of life, years before they decided to build a business. Susan would refer customers here and there, but she never thought of Melaleuca as a source of income. All that changed five years ago with the downturn of the US economy. Susan remembers looking out the window one Friday and seeing Jim being dropped off at home. She wondered why hadn’t just driven his company car home. “He worked for a building supply sales company,” Susan recalls. “But because of the economy people really weren’t building as much as they used to be, and he was laid off.” At the time, the Torborgs had an infant and four kids. While they weren’t happy about the change in employment, they remained positive a new job was just around the corner. Senior Directors 7 Susan and Jim Torborg Susan and Jim Torborg were customers with Melaleuca for 14

“I thought, ‘A new job will come, it always does,’” Susan says. “But it didn’t come quickly. We started going through our savings, and a month went by, two months went by.” Their savings was running out and the unemployment cheque didn’t even cover their mortgage. They found themselves using food stamps to help make ends meet. “I never thought food stamps would be a part of my life —never,” Susan recalls. “It wasn’t even an option. But when you want to feed your children and there’s no money coming in, you do what you have to do. Through all this, Susan kept thinking about Melaleuca. She’d read the Leadership in Action magazine, and she knew people were able to earn considerable income by referring customers to Melaleuca. “I said to Jim, ‘We need to become one of those families, because Frank would never lay us off. If we worked hard for this company, we could change our life and we deserve that,’” Susan says. Five years later, Susan and Jim are now a Senior Directors 7. In August, they dropped their oldest son off at college and were able to pay US$30,000 cash for his tuition. Susan now has her sights set on Executive Director. She knows that building her business not only blesses her and her family’s lives, but also the lives of everyone she shares Melaleuca with. Senior Directors

Lauren and Les Marts Senior Directors Lauren and Les Marts have only been building their business for six months, but it’s been a life-changing six months. Their first cheque with Melaleuca was

US$2,525 and right away they knew Melaleuca was a chance for them to earn some significant income. “I was in complete shock,” Lauren says of that first cheque. “We weren’t living paycheque to paycheque by any means, but I had ten years left on my student loans so there were no extras.” In the last six months, Lauren and Les have earned US$31,854 with Melaleuca. In this brief period, they’ve been able to pay off all their student loans! “Ten years of student loans paid off in four, five months—that was huge,” Lauren says. “And we also had a home equity loan.

We did a remodel on our house, and for the past three years we’ve just been paying interest on it. But fromMarch until now, after I get my cheque this month, there’s only US$2,000 left on it. “Our goal was to always live debt free and snowball our debt, but that just never seemed possible. After the first two months with Melaleuca, we kind of looked at each other like, ‘Wow, this is the real deal.’ Melaleuca has definitely changed our lives in a few short months.” What’s even more impressive about Lauren’s fast growth with Melaleuca is how she’s managed to do it while juggling motherhood and owning her own salon. She a great example of someone who builds their business around the demands of life. Lauren advice to other new business builders is to remember that when potential customers say “no” it only means “not right now.” It took six months before Executive Director 5 Krista Wineinger convinced Lauren to learn more about Melaleuca. “You can’t let rejection affect your decision, because a lot of people don’t know what they’re saying ‘no’ to,” Lauren says. “I just met with a lady yesterday who I’ve been trying to meet with since earlier in the year. Our schedules just weren’t matching up. We finally got together yesterday and she enrolled.” Lauren is looking forward to attending North American Road to Executive Director in February of 2017. She knows that as she continues to persistently build her business she will see great success with Melaleuca. Directors 9 Joe and Brandi Giordano When Joe and Brandi Giordano

For the Giordanos, family has been the motivation behind their choice to both shop and build a business with Melaleuca. “We joined Melaleuca because of the products,” Brandi says. “We had a small child and [we got to thinking] just what we were putting into our daughter and our own health.” “We also felt like we were doing people a favour sharing the things we learned,” Joe adds. As a health and fitness coach, Joe is well versed in the importance of quality nutrition. He carefully researched Melaleuca before joining, making sure the products lived up to his high expectations. He then made the decision to whole-heartedly build a Melaleuca business. “I made the decision to not dabble,” Joe says. “And that single decision has pushed me through a lot of ups and downs. It helped me decide that I truly was going to do this not only for the rest of my life, but do it whole heartedly.” Part of building this business whole-heartedly has been setting appointments and focusing on daily activity. “It starts with the daily calls,” Joe says. “Just staying focused on daily activity and not getting caught up in activities that are not actually building your business.” Joe trains his team to host regular in-home presentations, and then quickly follow up with new business builders by hosting a Strategy Session. “Don’t recreate the wheel,” Joe says. “Just follow the system.” Last month, the Giordanos received a cheque for US$3,371. They are well on their way to replacing Brandi’s income and look forward to welcoming Joe Junior into family. discovered they were expecting their second child, they found a whole new reason to build a Melaleuca business. “We always wanted to be the

primary caretakers of our children,” Joe says. “As a father, I am so excited [for Brandi to be able to come home] because then I don’t have to ever question what’s going on.” Brandi currently works as an adjunct professor at a nearby university. But thanks to their Melaleuca income, Brandi is now planning on being a full-time mum after the birth of second child.

The way we want to live our lives starts as nothing more than a thought —probably fleeting. If the thought is really, really nice, we’ll come back to it and dream about it. We’ll add detail, make it clearer, brighter, bigger and altogether more real. We become absorbed in our dreams, they’re a nice place to be. Most people don’t fully value their dreams. They think because they can’t physically see, touch or hear them that they’re not real. Successful people on the other hand, instinctively know that their dreams have the power to change their lives. They cherish their dreams. They believe —with every fibre of their being that their dreams will come true. Every day, they do something thing that brings their dream closer. Irrespective of failure and set-backs, they never… ever doubt that their dreams will come true. These are the people that change their lives; they are also the people who change the world. When you’re in their company, it’s inspiring. Through their unwavering belief that the future will be better than today, they make you feel as though anything is possible. It wasn’t too long ago that Frank VanderSloot had nothing more than a dream. At this very moment, I am inspired by many of you. Grant says “I wanted to lead by example by continuing to enrol new customers and also focus on getting others on the path to Senior Director as I know the rewards are fantastic, especially with the new Pacesetter Senior Director Incentive.” Grant also notes that it is important to focus on those who truly want to put everything into building a Melaleuca business. “Identify those who truly want to give Melaleuca a go, that doesn’t mean you don’t give time to customers or those who need a little more time, it just means you focus your efforts where it is needed at that time—as the more you grow your business the more lives you are helping to change.” Grant also says that the incentive has helped to create momentum in his business which is a key factor in growing your Melaleuca business quickly. “ New business builders have started to see the rewards of their hard work, the quicker you advance the bigger your month’s cheques which helps create belief among the team. People are really starting to live the life that have always wanted and it great to be a part of that. ” The three key things that Grant focussed on in October are pretty simple but it can often be what people lose track when their businesses start to grow. • Spend 50% of your time focussing on developing new personal leadership, this is what will help you get to Senior Director faster. • Don’t forget about customers and referrals—one happy customer can refer many more—don’t let them keep Melaleuca a secret. Senior Director 6 Grant Thorpe found a new sense of enthusiasm and an increased desire to help people when the Senior Director Pacesetter Incentive was announced in September. He quickly got to work because he knew it was an incredible opportunity to help change people’s lives. Grant says “This is the best time to start a Melaleuca business, the incentives are real and designed to reward you if you put the effort in to helping enhance people’s lives, with the right plan and strategy in place anyone can achieve Senior Director, Melaleuca just made something great even better.” September Launch inspired Grant to move in to action, he realised how the addition of this incentive could help him start great conversations about how Melaleuca can change people’s lives. He focussed a minimum of 50% of his time on personal activity and the other 50% helping other business builders.

everyone to enrol 8-10 new customers, many actioned this and as a team we achieved our highest month of enrolments to date.” Although Carole helped many in her team reach new heights she also lead by example and enrolled thirteen new customers herself which as she says “is a key to success in your business.” The team also got back to basics, and focussed on what builds a good business, they refocused their efforts on what was going to help them achieve their goals rather than getting caught up on the small things. “We focussed on the products and what they offer, we set appointments and made presentations, we focused on these three things each and every day—we were pretty much on repeat.” When the team did this and used the motivation of the incentive coupled with the Compensation Plan they became unstoppable in their quest to enrol customers. Reflecting on the great month Carole says; “ The Senior Director Pacesetter Incentive has helped create enthusiasm and excitement for many, with the right plan in place Senior Director is achievable, you just need to focus Carole mentioned that the incentive provides you with a great tool to approach new people. “Melaleuca has helped changed my life and I know there are many more people out there just like me and I am determined to help as many as I can—  this new incentive just makes it better.” Carole is well on her way to achieving Executive Director and she knows the hard work doesn’t stop here—she is looking forward to an even better 2017 for her and her team, and with the right plan in place we know she will achieve everything she sets her mind to. “It’s not rocket science, Melaleuca is a simple business, you just need to be consistent. 2016 was a fantastic year for newly advancing Senior Director 6 Carole Sellar. She advanced four times in 2016 on her journey to financial freedom and has helped enhance the lives of many. When the Senior Director Pacesetter Incentive was announced in September, she quickly realised how this Incentive could help change lives like never before. “Earning $90k – $100K and having your car paid for in your first year—many people dream about this sort of income and I have the opportunity to help them achieve it   — it is truly an exciting time to be part of Melaleuca.” Carole got to work with her team, including Senior Director 7 Yvette Brewin and Director 9 Hayley Harding, and set a plan in place. In October all the hard work paid off—Carole and her team literally broke the record books. “I asked them to approach the month as if they were aiming for Director again – the goal was for

about our goals for the month. We write it down, stick it on our fridge, make commitments to ourselves, our support teams or the corporate office. But as the month wears on, we lose sight of these goals, and allow ourselves to make excuses. So when I heard about the daily accountability call to help focus our team on what we are going to make happen today—not tomorrow—I jumped at it,” says Ian. Conducting a daily voluntary ‘zoom’ call whereby attendees commit to exactly how many calls they will make, how many overviews they will show, and how many enrolments they will put through that day, has had a profound effect on their business. Ian explains “It’s easy to put things off, and say you’ll get to it later. So when you set a goal of ‘I’m going to show someone an overview today’ it makes you think ‘oh, I better go and find someone today! Not tomorrow, not next week, not next month—today!’ “ Changing your mindset and creating a daily habit is all it really takes to turn things around. Doing this in a team environment which is both fun and supportive can mean all the difference. ” The results were almost instantaneous. One such success story came in the form of Ian and Karen’s personal enrollee Karen Madsen, who after advancing to Director 2 in March 2014, had spent the last two years stuck. “Karen came to me and said something that blew me away —she said that she had made the decision to give her business the priority it deserves,” says Ian. “She then committed to doing at least one thing for her business every single day, even if it was just to make one appointment.” Advancing to Director 3 in October of this year, Karen’s example has inspired the rest of the Mackay team to re-focus and make their businesses a daily priority. As the team in Mackay continues to grow and dominate the Leadership in Action magazine, Ian and Karen continue on their mission of providing families with happier, healthier homes. “This is just the beginning for us—we will achieve Executive Director in early 2017. But we won’t stop there—this business is a business for the ‘little guy’ and we want to help as many other 'little guys' live the lives they have imagined.”

In July and September of this year, newly advancing Senior Directors 5 Ian and Karen Muntelwit gained two new reasons to grow their Melaleuca business; the birth of their first grandchildren. “To see your children become parents themselves is a truly fulfilling moment. You see life from a new perspective. Its a wake up call that each day counts. We were in a new cycle of life and I didn't want time or financial constraints to limit us enjoying time with our grandson and grandaughter,” explains Karen. “The urgency to build our Melaleuca business had new meaning.” Finding inspiration in a BEST series CD while driving from MacKay to Rockhampton, Ian explains how they have set the wheels in motion towards Executive Director. “So often we talk

shopping experience. “I always say, ‘At the end of the day, we all brush, wash, and clean.’ I also like to say, ‘We have everything from toothpaste to toilet bowl cleaner,’ because I want them to feel as if this is no big deal, they are simply switching stores, though our products are better.” She also presents the diverse demographic appeal of the product selection in easily relatable terms. “I assure them that our products accommodate ‘the starving university student, the busy mum, or the empty nester like my dad.’” She also explains the monthly shopping requirement of purchasing 35 Product Points by explaining, “because of membership requirements, the bar is set so low that even a starving university student or an empty nester is able to maintain it easily.” If she can, she sits down with new customers when they shop for the first time. Once they gravitate to the aisle of products that speaks to them, they unveil the entire store for themselves, Jen explains. “Then they begin to explore, and they find things that might surprise them.” She never tries to influence them toward the product category that drives her (our fabulous health products!), but instead lets them lead the browsing process. “My journey with people is to take them into a simple idea of shopping, something they are already doing, so they will be at ease without losing the benefit that our products are better,” Jen says. “I assure them that in that moment, I’m there to share the store and help them enrol, but they always have me in their back pocket for help. BUILDING BELIEF North American Senior Director 2 Sherry Bedinger attended her first US Convention in May 2016 as a Director 3. It was a powerful experience. “Convention was so breathtaking,” Sherry recalls. “It was so insightful to see so many people who had been so successful with a Melaleuca business—and that anyone can build a business. People from all walks of life and different countries were there being successful, and I just saw the possibilities.”

Sherry heard the same message that thousands of others did: that if she was consistent in the right daily activities, success would follow. “I came home with the determination from Convention that I was going to grow my business no matter what it took,” she says. “I did not know where my next Director would come from. I just kept doing my consistent activity: making my calls, making appointments, and having in-homes. And from that activity came my next four Directors.” In the three months following Convention, Sherry advanced from Director 3 to Senior Director, and is now a Senior Director 2. She knows what consistent daily activity can accomplish, and she’s a great example of the power of Convention to build belief—in Melaleuca’s products, in the power of a Melaleuca business, and, most importantly, in herself. MAKING THE MOMENT For North American Senior Director Joe Giordano, Convention created the moment he and his wife Brandi needed to make the decision to get serious. “[National Director 9] Jason Paulin was on stage, talking about the time that he made his decision to really go for it. He said that if you haven’t had that moment, you probably have never made the decision to get serious.” Hearing that was Joe’s moment. “13 May—that was my day that I made my decision to take this seriously. I had that date written on my mirror for months, just to remind myself of my decision.” Joe returned from US Convention and began putting Frank’s challenge to work—making 20 phone calls a week. “Making those calls has been important,” he says. “Over time, my team has duplicated my efforts and that’s how we’ve grown.” The Giordanos walked into Convention 2016 as Directors 4. Now they’re Senior Directors, and they’re not slowing down.
