La firme d’experts-conseils J.L. Richards est engagée pour effectuer l’étude qui sera probablement complétée d’ici la fin de l’année. Il existe encore plusieurs conduites d’égouts combinées, qui acceptent les égouts sanitaires et pluviaux. Conséquemment, la capacité du système est débordée pendant les précipitations fortes. Les débordements se produisent quand le réseau ne peut pas contrôler tous l’afflux. La surveillance des débits sera effectuée au cours d’une période de quatre à sixmois, dit le directeur général Normand Beaulieu. Ces données aideront les édiles à mieux comprendre l’étendue du problème et si un plan d’action est nécessaire. Deux sondages seront effectués dans le cadre d’une étude que les Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell mènent afin de déterminer l’impact que le déménagement de 10 000 employés fédéraux aura sur la région. Le conseil des Comtés unis a dernièrement approuvé une somme de 25 000 $ afin de calculer l’effet que la décision du gouvernement pourrait avoir sur le secteur ouest de Prescott-Russell. L’étude, d’une durée de neuf semaines, comprendra un sondage téléphonique et un sondage en ligne, relate le directeur du développement économique, Sylvain Charlebois. Une nouvelle tradition se poursuit les 26 et 27 mai dans la ville de Hawkesbury. La septième « Fin de semaine de ventes de garage gratuites » aura lieu durant ces deux jours, alors que les résidents ne seront pas obligés de payer les frais du permis. La démarche est très populaire, selon un rapport présenté au conseil municipal par le directeur général et trésorier Normand Beaulieu et la greffière Christine Groulx. Depuis l’été 2006, la ville permet la tenue d’une fin de semaine où les permis pour les ventes de garage ne sont pas requis. « Les gens apprécient cette opportunité qui leur est offerte. Au cours des six dernières années, aucun incident n’a été relevé », soulignent M. Beaulieu et Mme Groulx.
