Top ten party hosting faux pas
Are you hosting a holiday get-together this year? For a snag-free celebration, don’t make these mistakes. 1. Forgetting to ask your guests about their dietary restrictions (or animal allergies, if you have pets).

What do food banks really need?
Would you like to give something back this holiday season? Donating money or items to a food bank (or other similar organization) is an excellent way to raise spirits and help those in need. Sowhat should you give? Here are a few nutritious non-perishable grocery store items to consider. Note that breakable containers, such as glass bottles and jars, should be avoided. • Canned beans • Canned fish and seafood • Breakfast cereals (varieties withwhole grains and low sugar content are best) • Pasta (ideally whole wheat) • Pasta sauce • Crackers (choose these carefully, because some crackers are devoid of any nutritional value) • Boxed milk and enriched soy milk • Canned fruit and sauces (with no added sugar) People also need staples like oil, spices, broth and flour. Moreover, though healthy foods are important, there’s nothing wrong with inclu- ding a sweet treat or two with your donation. Items that families in need can’t usually afford, • Peanut butter • Canned soup
such as almond butter or mixed nuts, aremuch appreciated during the holiday season. Think of what you would like to receive!

How to have a happy holiday season when you’re flying solo Are you spending the holidays alone this year? Whether or not it’s by choice, there are many ways you can make the most of a solo holiday season. don’t actually want to spend the holidays on your own, remember that being alone doesn’t have to feel lonely! There are a number of different ways to meet people over the holidays. • Attend a Christmas event in your com- munity (activities, shows, dances) or a holiday dinner that’s open to the public (check out hotels, inns and night clubs) • Invite neighbours or acquaintances who are also spending the holidays alone over for brunch If you’re going to be spending time alone, you might as well treat yourself. Catch a last-minute flight somewhere warm, hit the spa to relax and recharge, spend some time on a pet project or whip up your fa- vourite dessert — you can do whatever you please without worrying about anyone but yourself. Happy holidays!

Advent calendars are great: they allow children, for whom the concept of time is still abstract, to keep track of the days left before Christmas. This year, instead of the usual chocolate countdown, why not switch things up with one of these creative alternatives? • Family fun. Fill each calendar square with a voucher that the kids can trade in for a fun activity, such as going to the movies, building a snowman or baking cookies.

How to prove that Santa stopped at your home on Christmas Eve Are your kids looking for proof that the presents under the tree were indeed delivered by Santa Claus? The jolly old man is known to leave behind bits of evidence in the homes of those who made the nice list, so here are a few things to look for come Christmas morning (and for Mom and Dad to prepare the night before). will be undeniable proof of Santa.
• A letter from Santa. Did Santa enjoy his snack or gift? Maybe he should leave a thank-you note for the kids! Just make sure his handwriting doesn’t look too familiar. • Footprints. Leave boot prints in the snow (or use soot from the fireplace)

Cuisses de poulet à l’orange et au romarin
Cuisson : environ 2 heures Donne 4 portions
Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année 2017! 3. Lorsqu’elles sont bien dorées, les enlever de la cocotte et y ajouter l’oignon, le curry et le sirop d’érable. Bien mélanger à feu doux pendant quelques minutes. Préparation 1. Préchauffer le four à 175 °C (350 °F). 2. Dans une grande cocotte, faire fondre le beurre, ajouter l’huile et faire colorer les cuisses de poulet environ 5 minutes de chaque côté.
Ces cuisses de poulet vous surprendront par leur chair tendre et juteuse aux notes acidulées. Un succès assuré auprès de vos convives!
4. Remettre les cuisses de poulet dans la cocotte, ajouter l’ail, le romarin, le bouillon et les quartiers d’oranges. Saler et poivrer. Bien remuer. 5. Couvrir et mettre au four pendant 1 h 30. Remuer de temps en temps pour bien enrober toutes les cuisses. Servir sur de fines tranches d’oranges et arroser d’un peu de bouillon de cuisson.

• 3 c. à soupe d’huile d’olive • 4 grosses cuisses de poulet • 2 oignons, hachés finement • 1 c. à thé de curry • 3 c. à soupe de sirop d’érable • 2 branches de romarin • 4 gousses d’ail, hachées finement • 1 tasse de bouillon de poulet • 2 oranges pelées (la peau blanche enlevée), divisées en quartiers • Sel et poivre • Fines tranches d’oranges, pour servir
