APART FROM YOUR PASSPORT AND MONEY, WHICH THREE THINGS DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE ON YOUR TRAVELS? - Comfortable clothing, a larger suitcase if I’m travelling to a place that’s great for shop- ping, and medicines, just in case.

WHAT INTERESTS YOU MORE WHEN YOU VISIT NEW PLACES – PEOPLE OR LANDMARKS? - When I was younger it was people, because I could see the sights on the Na- tional Geographic Channel. But the old- er I get the more attention I pay to daily tourism and more studious consideration of monumental buildings. For example, al- though I’ve been to Paris a hundred times, in the last two years I went there as a tour- ist and discovered some beautiful places and buildings that I hadn’t even noticed previously. DO YOU RECALL YOUR FIRST TRIP ABROAD? - It was a trip to Greek coast with my parents, and later, while working on the “City” show, I toured Europe numerous times. From America to Hong Kong, we did interviews with the biggest stars of the time, and that was the main benefit of my job at that time.

na putu / on the road

WHO IS BOŠKO? A man who lives in the city and has managed to inhale everything that life in the city offers. He is someone who loves to meet people, to learn, in the broadest sense of the word, on a daily basis and to enjoy life at the right time and in the right place, as he likes, measured. But art is finding the measure.

KOJIM KOLEKCIJAMA EŠ SE PREDSTAVITI NA OVOGODIŠNJIM SMOTRAMA MODE? – Predstaviću dve kolekcije. Jednu elegantnu Martini Ve- sto by Boško i drugu sportsku Faktory by Boško. WHICH COLLECTIONS WILL YOU PRESENT AT THIS YEAR’S BELGRADE FASHION WEEK AND SERBIA FASHION WEEK EVENTS? - I will present two collections.

An elegant one, “Martini Vesto by Boško”, and a sporty one, “Factors by Boško”. Like most fashion de- signers, I also travel around the world a lot, I seek ideas, and then I return home and make a new col- lection. This year I set myself the task of touring Japan, Argentina and Brazil, where I’ve never been before.

WHICH THREE PLACES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO FOREIGNERS? - As my entire life is connect- ed to Belgrade, I would recom- mend Savamala to them. That’s something that no other city in the world has, which is also why I al- ways take my foreign guests there. Also, the route from Dorćol to Ada, which is divine in springtime, but also the view of Belgrade from a small boat on the rivers.

Rome Artificial beach beside the Tiber

Given that taking a dip in Rome’s fountains is banned and can result in a fine of up to €240, tourists and locals will have to find another way to cool off in the Italian capital this coming summer. A solution was recently announced by Mayor Virginia Raggi, who familiarised the public with a project to install an artificial sand beach along the bank of the River Tiber. The Rome beach will cover an area of 10,000 square metres and will be situated near Ponte Marconi. It should be completed this year. The project’s idea is to encourage residents of the city to make additional use of the river.

Bašte hotela, privatnih kuća, muzeja i drugih gradskih institucija biće u znaku tradicionalnog festivala lala, tokom kojeg će biti održana i predavanja o uzgajanju cveća.

Amsterdam Tulip-scented city

Until 30 th April, 85 different locations across the Dutch capital will present thousands of colourful displays of tulips, which are a trademark of this country. The gardens of hotels, private houses, museums and other city institutions will be dressed in the sign of the traditional Tulip Festival, during which lectures on flower growing will be held. The expansion of the flower business was in full swing in the Netherlands during the 20 th century, thus is it no surprise that this country is now the world’s largest exporter of flowers, with as many as nine billion tulips grown on its territory annually.

This will be the case again this year during the weekend of 27 th to 29 th April, during which visitors will be able to enjoy the many surprises of the Berlin art scene. This unique weekend gallery attracts, in particular, art collectors from Russia, China and America.

Zagreb Three days of fun for rockers

Moscow Remembering Yuri Gagarina Yuri Gagarin was the Soviet cosmonaut who became the first man to travel into space in the rocket Vostok 1, on 12 th April 1961. As such, every year Russia commemorates 12 th April in his honour, and organises special celebrations to mark Cosmonautics Day. His glory went global, while monuments were erected throughout Russia in Gagarin’s honour. As the first man in space, he flew once around the planet in a time of an hour and 48 minutes. The Croatian capital will host today’s biggest rockers from 26 th to 28 th April, for the fifth “Biggest Little Rock Festival”. The first day of the festival will see the performance of the legendary Rambo Amadeus, who always thrills audiences on every visit to Zagreb. A real surprise for the audience will be the performance of AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd, who spent 30 years as a member of one of the world’s top rock bands. He will perform on Friday, 27 th April, marking his first guest appearance in Croatia. Stuttgart Ideal place for a stress-free life If you’re wondering where the ideal place in the world is for life without too many worries, that’s definitely the city of Stuttgart. According to a survey conducted by company ’Zipjet’ that encompassed 500 cities, everyday life in Stuttgart was assessed as being free of stress. Researchers reached this conclusion by considering criteria such as population density, green areas, traffic, the sense of security, family purchasing power etc. Luxembourg is ranked second city on this list, with Hanover coming third.

IT’S NOT A ROSE, BUT A DANDELION

We often dream of magical rose beds out there some- where beyond the horizon, instead of enjoying the flowers that bloom every day under our windows. A million vers- es have been sung about roses, many poets have admired their fragrant petals, but, you must admit, the dearest is the one from Saint-Exupéry’s planet. The Little Prince tells his rose that he will love her even when she wilts, and others stop admiring her. And so, the rose is loved even when she no longer has a scent. And what about the dandelion? Well, even when it’s in full yellow bloom we tread on it and don’t notice. It’s everywhere, so we don’t find it special? But does that not testify to a power worthy of admiration? It’s yellow head often peaks through even before the snow has melted com- pletely, with the colour of the sun announcing spring’s ar- rival. And, you know, the dandelion is also celebrated as a medicine. The root, stem and flower are genuine trea- sures of health, which our ancestors knew long before us. In the end, if you consider a little, you will recall that the dandelion was one of our first allies in love, wheth- er we picked bouquets to give to our mothers, or plaited wreaths to decorate our hair, or, when its time passed and it turned completely grey, we blew its seeds as we thought of a wish... usually one related to love...

IMPOZANTNI MUZEJ ZEMLJE KOJE NEMA PALATA SRBIJA THE PALACE OF SERBIA

Impozan- tno stepenište vodi do centralnog foajea i glavnog ulaza u svečanu salu.

T he idea for its construction emerged as far back as 1947, but it wasn’t un- til 1961 that the newly completed Palace hosted the First Conference of Non-Aligned Countries. A design compe- tition ended with the selection of the de- sign offered by architect Vladimir Potočnjak and his team from the Zagreb project bu- reau. Along with preserving the basic idea of the building being H-shaped, with mildly curved wings, after a pause of several years, further construction was carried out in ac- cordance with the solution of architect Mi- hail Janković and Belgrade-based project bureau “Stadion”.

- Janković’s project offered an easier, more relaxed form. Massive walls and in- serted pillars were removed wherever pos- sible. In front of Tito’s cabinet were located two gilded pillars, made of pebbles coated in “katerini gold plate”. Likewise, the façade al- so received plenty of window openings and glass vaults above the central part. The suc- cess of Janković’s replaced project marked the victory of the modernist concept in Yu- goslav architecture – explains Sandra Vesić Tesla, curator of the Administration for Joint Affairs of the Republic authorities. According to her, the construction and furnishing of the Palace was the first time that the concept of total design was applied in our country. -That is a demanding principle in design that precisely prescribes the position, theme and size of artworks as part of a unique interi- or design. There is preserved documentation confirming that every detail was taken care of – says our interlocutor, while she shows us just one old folder containing yellowed papers that are today invaluable. The central part of the Palace, which connects the two wings of the building, rep- resents the most characteristic part of the building. An impressive staircase leads to the central foyer and the main entrance to the ceremony hall. A fantastic impression is al- so left by two spacious foyers with glass ceil- ings, from where you can“stroll”through all the republics of the formerYugoslavia. Those six salons, named after the republics, are like micro-museums of the peoples and nation- alities of a country that no longer exists. was interesting to check the story that the salons were designed so that the size of each hall was proportional to the geographical ar- ea of the republic it represented. We didn’t take measurements, but we got the impres- sion that the story is correct, and the cura- tor explained to us that the arrangement of every salon was entrusted to federal units that engaged their most famous architects and artists. MAKEDONSKI SALON (CRVENI SALON) Toplu atmosferu daju tradicionalni nameštaj orijentalnog porekla, jedinstvena tavanica u drvetu, luster s visećim delovima od drveta i abažurima od žutog mutnog stakla. Rozete sa motivom prepleta cveća, biljaka i ptica rađene u ču- venoj Debarskoj rezbarskoj školi. MACEDONIAN SALON (RED SALON) A warm atmosphere is provided by traditional furniture of oriental origin, a unique wooden ceiling, a chandelier with hanging wooden parts and light- shades of frosted yellow glass. Rosettes with motifs of interweaving flowers, plants and birds made at the famous Debar woodcarving school.

MONTENEGRIN SALON (GREY SALON) The inspiration for the décor was the time of Njegoš. A traditional dining table with three-legged chairs and hand-woven rugs with a stylised depiction of Mon- tenegrins in folk costumes. Standing out in particular are the relief worked doors featuring eight motifs from Montenegrin history, authored by Nebojša Mitrić and the mosaic ‘Lovćen’, by Branko Filipović Fil.

SERBIAN SALON The floor is covered with unique rugs featuring stylised representations of tradi- tional Serbian motifs, according to the drawings of painter Lazar Vujaklija. All three rugs are designed as unique thematic-visual wholes. On two of them can be recog- nised stylised depictions of domestic animals, Serbian towns and landscapes, and the carpet featuring simplified depictions of motifs from Serbia’s more recent his- tory is particularly interesting. The pillars are covered with bronze reliefs featuring motifs from the history of the Serbian nation in the period from 1804 to 1941.

by the monumental frescoes ‘Flight to the Cosmos’ by Petar Lubarda, ‘Roads of Yugoslavia’ by Lazar Vu- jaklija and the triptych mosaic work“Creation of Yu- goslavia”by Mladen Srbinović. The idea, the curator explains, was for art to express the idea of prosperi- ty and faith in the future of the young socialist state. The ceremonial character of the biggest hall is determined by its crystal chandelier which is still to- day among the world’s 10 largest, with around 2,600 lightbulbs and weighing in excess of nine tonnes. The chandelier is situated under a glass dome, ena- bling this area of imposing dimensions to be well lit with both artificial light and daylight. The moment when the lights are turned on is really impressive and leaves one breathless. - The Palace really provokes admiration among guests and it unfortunately can’t be a museum be- cause it has an important function in conducting state affairs. But it fills us with joy when some or- ganised visit brings foreigners, and especially archi- tects, who cannot hide their enthusiasm, and when they praise us recognition of our maintaining of this space that is authentic in many ways - emphasises the curator proudly.

SALON OF BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA All wall surfaces are covered with a maple wood coating. The largest tapestry in the entire complex found its place in this salon. Measuring 56m²,‘Šuma’(Forest) was creat- ed according to the ideas of the painters Vojo Dimirijević, Branko Subotić and Mirko Ostoja.

SLOVENIANSALON(BLUESALON) The dominant colour of the furniture determined the al- ternative name of this salon. The ambience is completed with details such as Idrija lace on the tables. It has a char- acteristic carpet with hunting motifs, woven according to the drawing of Slovenian painter Marinko Benzon. The unique lighting solution for this salon was inspired by the stalactites of Postojna Cave.

The ceremonial part of the building is a kind of art gallery of the 20 th century, and special value is represented by the collection of works of Yugoslav painting and sculpture, as well as the applied art from that time

I sve u baroknoj ustrep- talosti. – Taj vatromet boja

T he image of a woman’s face and her figure, placed in a Mediterranean milieu, is a key theme in the pic- tures of Željko Đurović. The fantas- tic and mysterious characteristics of woman, this – as the artist says – most resplendent work of nature and the world of man, have obsessed this painter since his first works. His works are awash with colours, the col- ours of fire, water, sky and earth. And all in Baroque sustainability. - Those fireworks of col-

They also often include me in fine art books and internet addresses - says Đurović. Sketching is his refuge. He immediately fell in love with the fountain pen and Indian ink. Everything else, he says, remains on the surface for him. - When I draw with a foun- tain pen, whose tip is a piece of paper, and when the black liquid pours into that furrow, I associate all of this with an act of love. Even today, when I have dark foreboding, when I wonder if my imagination has abandoned me, I return to the sketching, which elevates me and compels me to move for- ward. Sketches and sketching is for me an exalted act. I attribute to sketching the importance of superior creation. When painting for many years, a serious painter must

Često me stavljaju i u likovne knji- ge i na internet adrese – kaže Đurović. Crtež mu je utočište. Odmah se zaljubio u pe- ro i tuš. Sve drugo, kaže, ostaje mu na površini. – Kad crtam perom, čiji vrh para papir, i kad se u tu brazdu sliva crna tečnost, sve me to asoci- ra na ljubavni čin.
