Otvaranje zgrade renoviranog Muzeja savremene umetnosti, posle 10 godina pauze, obeleženo je spektakularnim programom koji je trajao 168 sati. Povodom otvaranja, priređena je izložba Sekvence. Umetnost Jugoslavije i Srbije iz zbirki Muzeja savremene umetnosti . Zgrada Muzeja se svrstava među antologijska ostvarenja domaćeg graditeljstva. To je prva zgrada građena namenski za muzej u Beogradu i ponovo je otvorena za sve ljubitelje umetnosti. The reopening of the renovated Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, after a break of 10 years, was marked by a spectacular programme that ran for 168 hours. The relaunch of the museum featured an exhibition named “Sequences. Art of Yugoslavia and Serbia from the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art”. The building, one of the greatest anthological achievements of construction in Serbia and the first bespoke museum space in Belgrade, is once again open to all art lovers.

Dragan Velikić is a Serbian writer and twice winner of the NIN Award, for the novels ‘The Russian Window’ and ‘Coroner’. From 2005 to 2009 he served as ambassador of the State Union of Serbia & Montenegro, then the Republic of Serbia, to Austria. For this issue of Elevate he writes about his experiences in Vienna and everything that thrilled him in the Austrian capital, but also about how he walked in the footsteps of greats through that city.

Tina Vujanović is a journalist specialising in the auto sector for famous magazine Auto Bild. Cars and driving are the greatest passion in her life, which she has turned into a vocation. No wonder, then, that she adores her job and enjoys driving and testing new cars. In this issue of Elevate she reveals that electric cars can now be charged in Serbia and shows us where our country’s chargers are distributed.

KOJE TI JE PUTOVANJE OSTALO U SEĆANJU? Nije lako izdvojiti, ali definitivno prvi odlazak preko okeana koji se desio tek u 30. godini, kada je moj život počeo na dva kontinenta. Pamtim i put u Tršić sa Komendijašima , predstavom koju sam igrala s mojom glumač- kom klasom, a koju je režirao profesor Bajčetić. Svi smo bili mladi, srećni i bezbrižni. Mnogo smeha je bilo, ali lepih i viših ciljeva. WHICH OF YOUR JOURNEYS DO YOU BEST RECALL? It’s not easy to single one out, but definitely my first trip across the ocean, which only happened in my thirtieth year, when my life on two continents began. I al- so remember the trip to Tršić with Komendijaši, a play I performed with my act- ing class, which was directed by Professor Bajčetić. We were all young, happy and carefree. There was a lot of laughter, but also nice, higher goals.
ŠTA UVEK NOSIŠ SA SOBOM NA PUTOVANJE? Zavisi od putovanja, ali postoji nešto bez čega ne krećem ni- kuda – tu su uvek salonke pigalke i crni ili beli sako. WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS CARRY WITH YOU ON YOUR TRAVELS? That depends on the journey, but there’s some things I don’t go anywhere without – Pigalle pumps and a black or white jacket. ŠTA VOLIŠ U BEOGRADU? Volim Botaničku baštu, koja je u mom komšiluku, i sve mi je omiljenija Ada Huja, koja mi je takođe blizu. U poslednje vre- me je više volim nego Ciganliju. WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN BELGRADE? I love the Botanical Garden, which is in my neighbourhood, and Ada Huja is increasingly becoming my favourite place, which is al- so close to me. Of late I happily go there instead of Ada Ciganlija.

KO JE KATARINA? Osnove glume učila u dramskoj grupi Mi- ke Aleksića, iako u tome nije imala podršku roditelja. Njen prvi susret s kamerom bila je uloga Sonje u filmu Policajac sa Petlo - vog brda . Fakultet završava u klasi Predra- ga Bajčetića, a na samom početku karijere dobija šansu da odigra naslovnu ulogu u fil- mu Zona Zamfirova . Preko noći osvaja na- slovne strane i medijsku pažnju. Ređaju se uloge, a na red dolazi i put u Ameriku. Da- nas živi između Los Anđelesa i Beograda, a uskoro će se na velikom platnu naći pored legendarnog Toma Henksa. WHO IS KATARINA? She studied acting basics in the drama group of Mika Aleksić, despite not having the support of her parents. Her first encoun- ter with the camera came with the role of Sonja in the film The Policeman from Petlo- vo Brdo. She completed college studies in the class of Predrag Bajčetić, and at the very beginning of her career received the oppor- tunity to play the title role in the film Zona Zamfirova. She grabbed front page head- lines and media attention overnight. Roles began lining up and the time came to trav- el to America. She today lives between Los Angeles and Belgrade, and will soon appear on the big screen alongside the legendary Tom Hanks.

There are countless attractions for tourists to enjoy in the British capital, and one of the latest is kayaking along the River Thames. Rome Everything’s ready for the jazz festival Jazz music exploded on Rome’s music scene after World War II and has remained very popular in numerous city clubs to this day. That’s why every November the Italian capital is devoted to its Jazz Festival, which is this year being held from 5 th to 30 th November under the slogan “Jazz is my religion”. This year’s programme will be devoted to significant dates in the history of this music genre, primarily the centenary of the release of the first jazz album and the hundredth anniversary of the birth of famous American jazz pianist Thelonius Monk. Amsterdam Battling against tourists In a recent attempt to return the heart of the city to the local population, Amsterdam has banned the opening of new shops intended for tourists in the historic part of the city. As such, the authorities brought the decision that souvenir shops, bike hire centres and similar establishments will no longer be allowed in the city centre. Although tourists are still welcome in Amsterdam, the priority is for the city to remain an active part in the lives of local citizens. In the city’s battle against the uncontrolled influx of tourists, authorities have increased the tourist tax for 2018, while a ban on the construction of hotels in the city centre has also been introduced.

Zato je svake godine novembar u italijanskoj prestonici posvećen upravo džez festivalu, koji se ove godine održava od 5. do 30. novembra pod sloganom „Džez je moja religija“. Ovogodišnji program biće posvećen značajnim datumima u istoriji ove vrste muzike, a to su pre svega 100 godina od prvog džez albuma i stogodišnjica rođenja Telonijusa Manka, slavnog američkog džez pijaniste.

UNUTRAŠNJA STVARNOST Iskustvo koje vam pruža moguć- nost da osetite kako ste istrgnuti iz korena obične percepcije i direktno i bezuslovno, potpuno oslobođenog uma, sagledate spoljni i unutrašnji svet predstavlja neprocenjivo iskustvo za svakoga, a naročito za intelektualca, pisao je svojevremeno Haksli u svo- jim Vratima percepcije . Takvo isku- stvo može da se dogodi bilo kada i bilo gde ako ste spremni da ga prepozna- te, da mu se prepustite i na trenutak uhvatite odblesak unutrašnje stvarno- sti. Trenutak kakav je jednog kišnog dana, bez plana šetajući Novim Sa- dom, iskusio fotograf Nenad Mihaj- lović. Uhvatio je svoju senku, svoj al- ter ego, ispred iskrivljene katedrale. U pomerenom svetu senka je nasta- vila da, poput Alise, prati belog zeca do zemlje čuda. Do čudesnih svetova u nama koji su nam uskraćeni, skrive- ni, zapleteni, nedostupni, a koji samo na trenutke otvaraju vrata percepcije i dozvoljavaju da zavirimo u manje po- znate kutke svoje duše.
INNER REALITY
“To be shaken out of the ruts of or- dinary perception, to be shown the out- er and inner world as they are apprehend- ed directly and unconditionally by Mind at Large - this is an experience of inestimable value to everyone and especially to the in- tellectual”, once wrote Huxley in his“Doors of Perception”. Such an experience can hap- pen anytime and anywhere, if you are pre- pared to recognise it, indulge in it and mo- mentarily capture the reflection of inner reality. Such a moment was experienced one rainy day when photographer Nenad Mihajlović was walking through Novi Sad without a plan. He caught his own shadow, his alter ego, in front of a distorted cathe- dral. In the shifted shadowy world, he con- tinued, like Alice, to follow the white rab- bit to wonderland; to the wondrous worlds within us that are cut short, hidden, com- plex, inaccessible, and which only open the doors of perception for just a moment, al- lowing us to peek into the lesser known corners of our soul.

The Tragic Burlesque arrives at Atelje 212
The Tragic Burlesque, Urnebesna tragedi- ja, under the direction of Marko Manojlović, will make its premiere performance on the Mira Trailović Stage of Theatre Atelje 212 on 10 th November. One of Dušan Kovačević’s most successful dramas, about family and personal tragedies that occur in seemingly ordinary human lives, this play was first per- formed on the stage of Belgrade’s Zvezdara Theatre in 1991. P etar Lubarda (1907–1974) je- dini je umetnik sa prostora bivše Jugoslavije čije je de- lo reprodukovano u Istori- ji modernog slikarstva Herberta Ri- da. Lubarda je i jedini zbog koga je tek osnovano Bijenale u Sao Pau- lu 1951. imalo posebnu težinu, po mišljenju čuvenog skulptora Hen- rija Mura. A te su godine na smo- tri učestvovali i jedan Dali i jedan Pikaso. Sam Lubarda se nije hvalio, njemu je bilo važnije ono što umet-
P etar Lubarda (1907-1974) is the only artist from the territory of the former Yugoslavia whose work was repro- duced in Sir Herbert Read’s“A Con- cise History of Modern Painting”. Lubarda was also the only one who gave special weight to the then newly-established Biennale in Sao Paolo in 1951, according to famous sculptor Henry Moore. And the event that year also included the likes of Dali and Picasso. Lubar- da himself did not boast – for him, what art meant internally was more important than what he gained from it externally.

nost donosi iznutra od onog što se njome dobija spolja. U godini jubileja, 110. godišnjici od rođenja velikog slikara, u njego- vu čast će biti organizovano čak pet izložbi. Jedna u Crnoj Gori, u Dvorcu Petrovića u Podgorici, jedna u BiH, u Galeriji Lubarda u Andrićgradu, a ostale u Srbiji. U spomen-zbirci Pavla Beljanskog u Novom Sadu, Galeriji Kuće legata u Beogradu i u Galeriji Nadežde Petrović u Čačku. Međutim, kroz platna često ogro- mnih formata, kojima su na desetine manjih slika služile kao skice, publi- ka će moći da vidi samo deo njego- vog bogatog opusa. Jer, nemoguće je da se izloži sve što je stvorio od hilja- da karakterističnih prizora obojenih strašću, ali i ozbiljnim umetničkim promišljanjem. Lubardino slikarstvo je mnogoslojno i žanrovski raznovr- sno. Kreće od realizma, a završava igranjem apstrakcijom. Podjednako je bio buran i njegov život, započet u selu Ljubotinje kod Cetinja. Crnogor- ski krš zato je prepoznatljiv u njego- vim delima, a prepoznaje se i kad je kubistički razložen. „Posmatrač mo- že da se zakune da je svaki konkre- tan greben već negde video, toliko je Lubarda uverljiv“, kaže Dina Pa- vić, kustoskinja Legata Petra Lubar- de. „Prvi vizuelni pejzaž kojim je bio okružen trajno se usadio u njegovu stvaralačku memoriju.“ Realistični prizori nose svežinu i nesputanu životnu radost, čak i kad govore o danima provedenim u naci- stičkim logorima u Nemačkoj i Italiji. Kao da je sve loše Lubarda ispuštao kroz stvaralački ventil, pretvarajući emocije u jarkocrvenu boju, često do- minantnu u njegovim delima. Kao i mnogi iz njegove generaci- je, zanat je pekao u predratnom Pa- rizu. Muzeji i galerije evropske pre- stonice kulture bili su bolja škola od čuvene Akademije lepih umetnosti. U Parizu se i zarazio modernizmom, pa taj duh promena kasnije uveo i u slikarstvo posleratne Jugoslavije. Ipak, nikada nije pristao na etiketu apstraktnog slikara, smatrajući se- be večitim istraživačem. To mu je, čini se, i došlo glave – veruje se da je podlegao trovanju isparenjima au- to-lakova, kojima je eksperimentisao pred kraj života. VERA, GANDI I JEDAN TELEVIZOR Iako je Lubarda imao dva bra- ka, o drugom se više pričalo. Jer, ćudljiva Vera bila je za njega fa- talna. Upoznali su se u ateljeu Lubardinog kolege Mila Miluno- vića, čija je Vera bila studentki- nja, i od tada se nisu razdvajali. Osim kad je slikar, tada već član Srpske akademije nauka i umet- nosti, otputovao za Indiju na po- ziv tamošnje komisije za kul- turne veze sa inostranstvom. U Indiji ga je uoči otvaranja izložbe primio Mahatma Gandi, dok je svoje utiske Lubarda preneo su- pruzi u iscrpnim pismima, sada delu dokumentacione zbirke Ku- će legata. Pismima društvo prave umetni- kov štafelaj, njegova omiljena stolica, stilske komodice... i ono što je ostalo od slikarskog pri- bora. O navikama bračnog para, sklonog tehničkim inovacijama, priča i jedan televizor, najmo- derniji u ono vreme.

U nju pro- mene unose retrospektivne izlož- be Petra Lubarde, dok povodom ak- tuelnog jubileja upražnjena mesta zauzimaju radovi iz Tarket kolekci- je. Lubardina novootkrivena bista, delo Sretena Stojanovića, dočarava mio lik slavnog slikara. Bronzom za- mrznuti Lubardin pogled traži no- ve inspiracije.

server could swear that they have already seen every specific ridge somewhere, as Lubarda is so convincing,”says Dina Pavić, curator of The Legacy of Petar Lubarda. “The first visual landscape surrounding him was permanently embedded in his creative memory”. Realistic scenes carry freshness and the unbridled joy of life, even when they describe days spent in Nazi concentration camps in Germany and Italy. It is as though Lubarda filtered all bad things through a creative vent, transforming emotions in- to the bright red colour that often dom- inates his works. Like many of his generation, he learned his trade in pre-war Paris. The museums and galleries of Europe’s Capital of Culture were a better school than the famous Academy of Fine Arts. It was in Paris that he also be- came infected with modernism, and he lat- er introduced this spirit of change into the fine art of post-war Yugoslavia. Still, he nev- er accepted the label of an abstract artist, instead considering himself an eternal re- searcher. It also seems that this cost him his life: he is believed to have succumbed to the poisonous vapours of car paint lac- quer, with which he was experimenting towards the end of his life. Lubarda is also considered as having been a state, “court” artist, which had no connection with his political beliefs. Ti- to simply adored his paintings. Howev- er, a villa in the Dedinje area was given to him, to avoid the embarrassment of foreign delegations seeing such a great artist living in poor conditions. As he was without heirs, Lubarda left the villa and his paintings to the nation. The Legacy of Petar Lubarda is to- day a beautiful building, which required years of restoration. At the time that the City of Belgrade took over the legacy of this famous painter, the house at 1 Iličiće- va Street was in ruins. The remainder of the 57 pictures and hundreds of draw- ings bequeathed to the nation were con- served, with great difficulty, and many disappeared without trace. But just the 23 works that adorn the walls of the vil- la today are enough to admire him and gain an impression of the scope of his painting genius. The permanent exhibition at the Lega- cy officially opened in 2014. There have al- so been retrospective exhibitions of Petar Lubarda’s works, while the current jubilee has seen the place occupied by works from the Tarkett Collection. Lubarda’s recently discovered bust, a work of Sreten Stojano- vić, brings to life the amiable face of this famous painter. Lubarda’s frozen bronzed look seeks new inspiration.
VERA, GANDHI AND A TV SET Although Lubarda had two marriag- es, his second is discussed more. That’s because he was fatally attracted to the peculiar Vera. They met at the stu- dio of Lubarda’s colleague, Milo Milu- nović, who was then Vera’s professor, and from that point onwards they were never again separated – apart from the time when the painter, then already a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, travelled to India at the invitation, of the Indian Commis- sion for Foreign Cultural Relations. He was received on the eve of the opening of his exhibition in India by Mahatma Gandhi, who relayed his impressions of Lubarda to his wife in extensive letters that now form part of Heritage House’s document collection. The letters provide company to the art- ist’s easel, his favourite chair, stylish chests etc., and what’s left of his paint- ing tools, while testifying to the habits of this married couple, who were keen on technical innovations is a TV set that was the most modern at the time.
In this year of the jubilee marking the 110 th anniversary of this great painter’s birth, as many as five exhibitions will be organised in his honour. One in Montene- gro, in Petrović Castle in Podgorica, one in Bosnia-Herzegovina, in Lubarda Gallery in Andrićgrad, and the other three in Serbia – at the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collec- tion in Novi Sad, the Gallery of Heritage House in Belgrade and the Nadežde Pet- rović Gallery in Čačak. However, the public will only be able to see a part of his rich opus be- cause the canvases are often huge and contain dozens of smaller images which serve as sketches. It’s impossible to ex- pose everything he created among the thousands of scenes he painted with pas- sion, but also serious artistic considera- tion. Lubarda’s painting is multi-layered and varied in terms of genre. It extends from realism and culminates in him play- ing with abstraction. His life, which began in the village of Ljubotinje near Cetinje, was equally tur- bulent. That’s why the Montenegrin karst land is recognisable in his works - even when it’s expressed cubistically. “An ob-

stična sedamnaestogodišnja Marta Hadžimanov. Stefanović, prvak ovog pozorišta koji, kako sam kaže, ne broji velike ulo- ge koje je odigrao, ističe da je pri po- stavljanju predstave najvažnije znati kome ona treba da se obrati i koga da dotakne. – Mislim da je pravo vreme za po- stavku u Srbiji, jer nismo ni svesni ko- liko fantoma obitava oko nas, koliko unakaženih, odbačenih, neprihvaće- nih, čije vapaje ne čujemo. Čula su nam otupela za ljubav, prihvatanje i saosećanje. Ne samo Fanto- ma… Marta Hadžimanov, sedamnae- stogodišnja učenica dveju muzičkih škola, ćerka Vasila Hadžimanova, unu- ka Senke Veletanlić, Zafira Hadžima- nova i Brankice Vasić Vasilise, ovom ulogom postala je najmlađa profesi-

Sada već odra- stao čovek, na sceni iznad svog mraka začuje anđeoski glas mlade Kristin koja dobija svoju prvu ulogu u ope- ri. Njegova ljubav prerasta u opsesi- ju, a opsesija u zločin. Rođen je Fan- tom koji teroriše i seje strah u operi. Njegovo unakaženo lice postaje ništa spram izopačenosti njegove duše. Že- leći samo da bude voljen i prihvaćen, Fantom postaje čudovište... Ova priča, prema romanu Gasto- na Lerua iz 1910. godine, inspirisana je, kažu, istinitim događajem u pariskoj operi u 19. veku. U rukama legendar- nog Endrua Lojda Vebera postala je motiv za najduže izvođen mjuzikl svih vremena koji je videlo više više od 140 miliona ljudi. Na londonskom Vest En- du zaživela je 1986. i posle Jadnika oborila sve rekorde u broju izvođenja jednog mjuzikla, dok je na Brodveju, na kom je premijeru imala dve godi- ne kasnije, postala apsolutni rekorder. Fantom iz Opere stigao je i na be- ogradske daske, na scenu Pozorišta na Terazijama, čime je Aleksandar Đaja, direktor tog teatra, ostvario svoj umet- nički plan. – Od dolaska u ovu kuću pre 16 go- dina na mesto dramaturga želeo sam da postavim tri velika mjuzikla, Vik- tor, Viktorija , Mama mija i Fantom iz Opere . Moja trilogija je sada zaokru- žena najzahtevnijom predstavom – re- kao je Đaja. Magija mjuzikla Fantom iz Ope- re , njegova tajna šifra, krije se, kažu, u igri na možda najvećim visinama na koje su podignuti junaci ovog koma- da. Ljudski glas nema kud da ode da- lje, niti kud više da dosegne. U ovom mjuziklu reč je i o žrtvovanju, dava- nju, predanosti, zavisti, nadanju, bor- bi s prosečnošću, a sve je to, na kra- ju krajeva, posvećeno umetnosti jer je glavni junak zapravo – muzika. Lavinu neverovatnih i tragičnih događaja u jednom pozorištu i pre- plitanje dveju realnosti pokreće lju- bav glavnog junaka, tajanstvenog Fan- toma, prema talentu mlade operske pevačice i njenom glasu. Među više od 200 protagonista na sceni Pozo- rišta na Terazijama u naslovnoj ulo- zi našao se Slobodan Stefanović, dok je njegova partnerka na sceni fanta-
onalna glumica u Srbiji, ali i najmla- đa Kristin na svetu. – Pojavila sam se na audiciji među svim tim pevačicama, glumicama i ta- lentovanim ljudima bez ikakvih očeki- vanja. Želela sam samo da vidim kako je stajati na sceni omiljenog pozorišta i posmatarati ga iz druge perspekti- ve. A onda sam otpevala bez greške i dobila ulogu. Danima smo svi ska- kali od sreće po kući ne verujući da mi se san ostvario u ovim godinama – priča prelepa Marta, koja je scenom na svom prvom pojavljivanju vladala kao da iza sebe ima stotine predstava. Mladost, neiskustvo i odrastanje u muzičkoj porodici samo su neke do stvari zbog kojih su Marta i Kristin za-
