Many people know what they would like to study but if you’re not sure, or don’t know what your options are, contact our Student Advice Team who will be happy to help you. When you look at the courses throughout this prospectus you’ll see that they have a qualification in the course title, followed by a level from The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and campus.

Articulation Articulation means that there is an agreement that your Higher National qualification will allow you direct entry to a certain year of a degree course. For example, two years of study with us on an HND could allow direct entry to the third year of a degree at university. Most of our HNC and HND courses have at least one formal articulation route, and most courses offer many routes.

Counselling Our counselling service offers one- to-one appointments and weekly drop-in groups to provide students with a variety of self-help opportunities to support positive mental health and encourage resilience. We work closely with college partners, to ensure that students can be appropriately signposted to external support and clinical services. The counselling service also offers weekly drop-in groups to learn about mental health issues and to access support. A bespoke listening service offering one-to-one sessions to support students who have additional needs is also available. Mental Health Our award-winning partnership with SAMH has allowed teaching and support staff across our three campuses to be involved in a range of mental health awareness training and we have eight Mental Health First Aiders. All students will be offered access to a mental health course and resources during their induction to help support positive mental health and wellbeing. Our Time to Talk helpline is available to the whole college community and is staffed by qualified counsellors. Call Time to Talk on 0141 272 3786 .

The College provides access to self- help resources and materials for all students to help them manage or improve their mental health. If you are feeling stressed, anxious or feeling low there are self-guided courses and resources designed to support positive mental health and wellbeing. This can help you maintain positive mental health throughout your studies and provides specific resources to help you at times that might be particularly stressful such as the start of your course when you’re meeting new people for the first time, when your assessments start to make you anxious or when you are preparing for exams.

YOU CAN always talk to someone – we want everyone to feel supported on their learning journey. The GCCSA also drive several key campaigns throughout the year, including undertaking the LGBT Silver Charter, a quality standard that means the College is seen as a champion of LGBT inclusion. you will be sent an activation email to allow you to apply for your Bursary or EMA funding online. Applications will be available from June onwards. Funds are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. All funds are discretionary and students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Higher Education (Advanced) Courses Applications for funding advanced courses should be made through the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) at SAAS.gov.uk. Student Loan Many of our students apply for a Student Loan. It is worth keeping in mind that you will need to pay the loan back after you’ve left college or university and are earning more than £18,390. Other Funds There are other funds available to students, including: Childcare, Care Experienced Bursaries, Lone Parent/Dependant’s Grant, Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) and Discretionary Fund.

Most college students receive some level of financial support towards the cost of studying and it is important that your finances are arranged before starting your course. Students can access funding depending upon their age and status, and all awards are based on personal circumstances. The Student Funding Team is here to help you and can provide confidential, impartial advice on funding matters. Further Education (Non-Advanced) Courses The student funding you access will depend upon the course you choose but the most common funding sources are Bursaries or Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). Bursaries and EMAs Funding is not guaranteed and you will be required to provide evidence to support your application. All funding allocations are based upon your personal circumstances. 3 SCQF LEVEL

The Prince’s Trust 12 week programme, can help you if you are 16-25, unemployed and looking for something new. You would be joining a group of up to 15 other young people to gain new skills, make new friends and improve your job prospects. If you sign up for the programme, you will be involved in a range of projects and activities. Amongst other things you will take on a community project of your choosing, get two weeks’ work experience in a field you are interested in and take part in an exciting team challenge.

Are you an adult looking to return to education? Our NQ Adult Return to Study course will help you refresh your basic skills, improve confidence levels and access careers guidance, before applying for further education. Gateway to Hospitality and Catering offers you a first step to studying hospitality and catering in a college setting. Your lecturers will work with you to prepare you to continue your college journey in this area. English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses help you to improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English. Our courses prepare you for further study and getting a job. Studying ESOL at Glasgow Clyde College will also increase your confidence to speak English for everyday life in Glasgow including social situations – with friends and classmates, work or helping your children at school.

Is it your dream to become a primary teacher? This new course will give you the basic qualifications to progress to an undergraduate degree in primary teaching. You will study Higher English and National 5 Applications of Maths while learning some key skills required to be an effective primary teacher. You will gain skills in sports coaching to deliver physical education and you will gain an introduction to Spanish and/or British Sign Language to support you in developing learners’ linguistic skills. You will also learn basic theories of teaching and learning and how to support the behaviour and needs of your learners. Access to Humanities (SWAP)

Access to Humanities is run in partnership with the Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) and is designed for adults who have been away from education, typically for five years or more. You will have the opportunity to study a range of SQA Social Science units at SCQF Levels 5 and 6, alongside units in communication, mathematics and information technology. The course also includes a class in ‘Preparation for Higher Education’ which, combined with guidance, aims to help you reach your full potential. There are two options available for study. If you study at Anniesland Campus, the Access to Humanities course offers progression to social science degrees only. If you study at Langside Campus, the Access to Humanities course offers the potential to progress either to social science degrees or to primary education. If you wish to go on to primary teaching, you will require to study and successfully complete a mathematics examination at SCQF Level 5 and secure and complete a placement in a primary school.

NC Social Science is for you if you wish to begin study in the social sciences. It provides an introduction to several social science subjects, and considers how society, past and present, impacts the individual and how people can impact their surroundings. A range of topics will be covered, these include conformity and where it comes from, discussions on how the media, family and education influence people and the steps and processes undertaken at a crime scene by various professionals. It is hoped that the course will develop an understanding of how different social scientists attempt to explain the world that surrounds us. It is designed to offer a foundation level of knowledge and understanding in several social science disciplines, and introduces you to the study of people and society. This part-time Lifelong Learning course offers learning opportunities for adults who need additional support for learning. It aims to support personal development, self-determination and social inclusion. The course subjects consist of half-day sessions and you can apply for up to two subjects which will develop your knowledge and skills. Teaching takes place in small informal groups and covers a variety of subjects including: cookery, art, drama, music, upcycling, digital photography, information technology and sport. Please note that the subjects offered vary between campuses.

Moving on to Independence

This one-year Moving on to Independence course is for young people who require additional support for learning and wish to develop relevant skills and knowledge to progress to an appropriate future option. This may include opportunities with other agencies, volunteering opportunities or supported / open employment. The aim of the course is to build skills that will prepare you for life after college. This course is suitable for you if you have completed Learning for Independence or a similar course. You will develop personal and employability skills through a wide range of subjects and receive guidance and support to develop your own Personal Learning and Support Plan, to meet your additional needs and goals. Learning to work with others is an important element of the course and is encouraged through projects and activities. You will participate in work experience placements within the college and these are an excellent way of preparing for supported employment or volunteering.

NQ DFN Project Search is offered by Glasgow Clyde College in partnership with Glasgow City Council Supported Employment Service and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. It is ideal if you have learning disabilities and would like to develop your employability skills. You will develop your skills at Glasgow Royal Infirmary where you will carry out work placements and attend classes. Work placements may include portering, catering, domestic and administration roles. You will also develop essential skills that will help you gain employment such as CV writing, interview techniques and working with others. You will be supported throughout the course by a college lecturer, a job coach and hospital staff. DFN Project Search – Industry is delivered by Glasgow Clyde College in partnership with Renfrewshire Council. The course provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability skills to support young people with learning disabilities and autism spectrum conditions make successful transitions to a working life. You will develop your employability skills at Renfrewshire Council where you will develop essential skills in a classroom setting that will help you gain employment, in subjects such as team building, workplace safety and technology. You will also participate in three, 10 week work placements in a variety of job roles within Renfrewshire Council and local partners. Work placements may include catering, housekeeping, administration and environmental roles.
